I've been playing for a little less than a week now, but I'm enjoying what I've seen so far. I've gotten my Nausicaan up to level 18 or so and things seem to be going well. The big problem I've seen so far is how the game is non-intuitive; I've had to do a lot of work to figure out how the game works.

Anyway, glad to be playing!

Qapla' and welcome to the neighborhood. You should find most folks to be a fun bunch, who are willing to answer any questions you might have. Most of what I've learned has come from searching the forums, as many people have had the same issues.

Most importantly, though, be sure to have fun. And may you make worthy prey!

Nausicaan, eh? Very good choice, my first KDF char. was a Nausicaan, in fact I became interested in the faction when I saw the unconventional design of the Nausicaan ships. Now he's my No.1 pirate. :D

    Wellcome to STO. :)

If there's something that appears to violate natural laws, then you can expect someone's going to point it out. That's just the way things are.

Welcome to the community. If you have questions, don't hesitate to look at the Starfleet Academy sub-forum, and don't be afraid to ask.

Also, the most helpful advice I can give you is do not keep food in your inventory with a live tribble.

Welcome aboard! Before you make yourself too comfortable, here are some general guidelines you need to make sure you follow.

    1. ALWAYS make sure to follow the patch notes. One thing that angers me to no end is how people STILL don't know about things that were patched LAST YEAR!

    2. Make sure you spend some time reading through the Wiki. Trust me. This will save you weeks, maybe even months of trying to figure things out on your own, as well as save you the embarrassing questions. More often than not, it will also save you from receiving a wave of condescending answers.

    3. Never, and I mean NEVER activate Zone Chat.

    4. When (not if, WHEN) you receive one of those emails about a certain company (which I shall not name) selling Zen or Keys, or even gold at a much discounted price, REPORT FOR SPAM! And NEVER type the name of that company in chat, or else you will trigger the chat's auto Ban system. Any attempts to convince Customer Service to unban you will take at least a week or two or three.

    5. Make sure you take a careful look at the species your bridge officers possess. The vast majority of species don't have any space traits whatsoever, so they are ONLY useful for the away teams, such as the Photonic Tactical, the Borg Scientist from Khitomer, any of the Episode Replay officers, and almost every species to which the KDF have access. Then you have Humans, who possess both space AND ground traits. Based on that, you need to either have a separate space crew and away team, or simply go with an all Human crew.

    6. Before you get too busy with playing, make sure you buy the USS Enterprise (Original Series Constitution Class Cruiser) from the C-Store. It comes equipped with 23rd Century Blue Phaser Beams. These level with the player, so you can carry these with you and continue to use them virtually indefinitely, and on any ship. This saves you uncountable Credits trying to buy weapons every time you get promoted. And if you end up with a Cruiser with 8 Weapon slots, simply discharge Enterprise and claim it again, so you have a full set of the Retrofit Phasers. But just like anything else that levels with the player, these weapons only level to an equivalent of Mk X, so you would be best to upgrade into Fleet weapons whenever you become able.

    7. Tribbles are adorable, until someone leaves one near a replicator.

    8. Defera Invasion is by far, one of the good ways to level a character. You receive a temporary promotion to Level 50 when you are there, and that also amplifies your guns too. Make sure you get into a team so you can run the Hard missions, which is the main method for levelling. But also make sure to pick up the Zone Wide missions, especially Culling the Collective, Momento Vitae, and any of the crafting missions. In addition, the rate for Fleet Marks is near unrivalled, and will ensure that you have more than enough Fleet Credits to purchase gear by the time you reach Level 50.

    9. On the subject of Defera Invasion, the Hard mission for City is STILL bugged after so many years. Look at the alcoves on the wall, to see if they are all occupied. If only a few are occupied, the room is bugged, and you will be camping for 7 minutes, waiting for the mission to auto-complete. My advice is to check all the rooms before you make an attempt to start one. If (IF) you find a non-bugged room, go for it. If all 4 rooms are bugged, you are camping, so decide on which room to camp.

    10. Before you get started on the Defera Hard missions, make sure everyone on the team has picked up the Automated Aggression mission. While you are sitting around, waiting for the bugged City Hard to auto-complete, one (only one) person can safely leave the room (NOT the person who activate the room) and work on the Automated Aggression mission. It is a small bonus, but at least it makes up for needing to camp in the first place.

    11. Hypos are your friend, so please make sure you stock up Large Hypos.

If you can follow those guidelines, your time in STO will be much more enjoyable. I hope to see you around. Have fun! :D
