I don't know about that. On the show, the Defiant is characterized as a tough little ship. In the game, it's a paper plane.
its is tough, for a little ship. its not as tough as ships a fair amount larger then it, and most ships dwarf it. comparatively its not very tough at all.

The show...was fiction - not a documentary. Like all the other hero ships, it was invincible until the story required that it not be invincible. It's why Canon is pretty much useless when discussing anything - since it's generally inconsistent fiction subject to plot whims.

Indeed, the Defiant stood up to the Borg, which it was designed specifically against, about as well as the older Starfleet designs that were fighting alongside it. In short, not that good. Only the arrival of the true, top of the line ship, a Sovereign-class, saved it.
In seriousness, I think I may be the only person on these flaming forums and the little knitting circle of remaining PvP'rs who actually uses all its slots - inlcuding the third tac ensign.
On the topic of this thread, I have to bust out my podium for a little bit of news that's semi-sad, depending on whether or not you care.
I kept up with the power creep for so long, straining to hold onto PvP. I got a bugship eventually, not the top of the line ship anymore but very close, I was doing fine in PvP. But then S9, and the Undine rep and lock box madness (especially painful to me was the AP specific resistances, since I am heavily invested in fleet/lockbox AP stuff), and now this hideously op little ship. The weight of it all finally collapsed on me, and so I have to say that I won't be doing the grind anymore unless I want something out of it. I've tried to ignore the reality that PvP has more hull breaches than swiss cheese, buuuuuuut... our little friend the patrol escort just came along and totally exploded the realization in my face.
Maybe I'll join in on private OPvP/TD matches if I am on at the time one is running, but otherwise I am retreating entirely to Cap'N'Hold and leaving arena PvP to be mutilated beyond recognition by this new level of power creep (refit-refits). My bugship is going to be lonely now, and it will be especially sad there in drydock since it was a gift from a friend of mine as he retired from STO. Yeah, I'll use it but its main purpose is gone and with things like the new patrol escort it no longer has the unique, powerful shine it once did. Oh yes, and speaking of that patrol escort again, I am further disgusted by it because the FPE I have (which I paid for) apparently won't get an automatic upgrade.

Well Cryptic is telling you something my friend. You are doing it wrong. Now get on board and ask them for a refit with a lt cmd eng... or at least 2 lt engi so you can a2b like everyone else. Beams man that is what Cryptic balances around.

Faw it a2b it, that is the way to go.
Well, between Marion and Technicians' Auxiliary Power to The Emergency BFAW, and abandoning the "competitive" PvP boat, I'll take the latter. I stand by my cannons, and in torpedo I trust.
Hold on, people thought the changes to the Rep System were to reduce power creep and not to set clear guidelines and bounds for introducing power creep in a progressive and ordered manner over time while having something of a limit on just how much of that power creep can be dipped into at once to prevent super-powerful players from creating a game space where in new players don't actually have time to fire their weapons before the PvE is over?
If you feel Keel'el's effect is well designed, please, for your own safety, be very careful around shallow pools of water.

Don't ever remember hearing Picard say: "Auxiliary to battery!". Especially not every 15 seconds...

Don't do it! Don't give up! Your ship need not be lonely. Use that bugship, and I'll grab my Charal. We shall fight all those nasty new little Patrols until they burn!
Oh...and it really is dumb that the previous FPE's don't get an automatic upgrade. Sheesh...can you imagine some poor guy who did the long grind and JUST bought his FPE 2 or 3 days ago? Bet he feels all kinds of love toward Cryptic right now...
we will see the new patrol escort everywhere... and kdf toons doing only pve.
I like running around the Dyson Ground Battlezone, holding down both mousebuttons and steering with the mouse, while pressing the 1 and 2 keys to alternate weapon fire. Sometimes I sing, bobbing my head from side to side...it's a grand delusion of happiness and joy...where everything is okay in STO.
No wonder they removed cutscene skipping with spacebar. All the Kirks eager to unleash their Aux2Batt-FAW madness couldn't enjoy them anymore while their autohotkeys were on work...

I mean, literally that's what Cryptic acknowledged by making that spacebar change for the cutscenes...they know they've got a ton of players just spamming the spacebar and if a cutscene popped up during that the player's would be WTF was that? Lol...
I have no idea what the HELL a SINGLE rear-firing dual NON-HEAVY cannon is supposed to accomplish...especially if it doesn't even have the ability to fire on targets of opportunity independently of your ship's forward target.
Even the frikken Spathi put their single light pewpew cannon in front.
to bad the 4th aft weapon isn't just blank. if it was, you would have the undisputed king of all non cloaking offense heavy ships. including all cruisers, warships, destroyers and escorts. well, its close enough frankly.
and they are worried about something like a good galaxy R being the last thing anyone buys or flys
Hrmm, well it is a 90 arc DC instead of a 45 arc DC...with CRF1 always active. So it could provide some additional damage for folks that are strafing instead of dancing on an arc - or - even just as something to fire on a target called in that arc.
But yeah, it's definitely a headscratching moment overall...
Even as a guy that flies 1x KDF aligned Reman and 7x KDF - no Fed toons - I had to chuckle at that. Cause uh, you know - um...you know...um...Raiders?
This isn't a knock on you but my post was pure sarcasm. It feels like cryptic put the most random item on the rear of the ship a advertised "Use the new run away tactic (hitnrun)" as a marketing feature. If they were going to put a fused item it should of been that bomb it comes with in the rear not the cannon.

I'm...posting in my sleep. I tend to get loopy around this time. And after the Dil Exchange thread, I'm just kind of sitting here with a blank stare, drooling a bit, trying to remember why I logged on to the particular toon I did...
Hrmm, without creating another post...
I'm curious about two things form the blog.
So, that Nadion Saturation Bomb almost sounds like a Ferengi Rapid Missile that drops out something like Breen Clusters (without the cluster) that explode and leave...a hazard? Nadion...so are we looking at something that increases the drain of things (whether weapon drain or actual power drains from abilities)...? Nadion Inversion reducing drain...Nadion thus increasing drain?
Would that mean the Tempest Tail Gun is a Polaron weapon or it is some new Energy Type? Is it sporting a Nadion Proc?
Hrmm...oh well, back to trying to figure out why the Hell I logged in this particular toon or perhaps going to sleep...
I am surprised at how similar it is to the Nicor, but personally I would rather have a 4th beam array than the rear cannon. Still it does give Nicor owners a little sticker shock.
Isn't it odd to release a veritable clone of a lockbox ship, right after that lockbox ship is released?
I wouldn't say it superceeds or is a nicor clone, but it certainly feels like we've entered a new epoch. Tier 5.75 or 5.99 (with rommies still being in the equivalent of tier 7).
Would have preferred to have all of these ships released or at least announced at once, but you know cryptic, gotta drip feed all that money making content to squeeze out every single dollar from unsuspecting customers.

No, no . . . no future powercreep, changing the Rep system took care of future powercreep.

Long live PvP.

Playing STO spamming FAW is like playing chess using always the computer's suggested moves

I'd argue that the Nicor is still the best with its 4/4 weapons slots abd passive hull heal
... well at least not for 2-3 weeks ...
... cuz you know they'll add a hangar bay to it then to make it sell ...
