New Patrol Escort

Well, my thanks for making the Armitage, the Prometheus and the Defiant obsolete. 5tac consoles and 2 lt.cmd. seatings, its a win in pve (compared to other escorts) and I think even in PvP it will get a lot of attention due to its universality.

"The Scimitar of Escorts" should be a nice nickname for it^^ (even though it lacks a hangar and BC)

    It's good that Escorts are getting more love. Last thing they got was that Hirogen ship with the nifty ship-flip console.

    The odd thing is I figure most people will just make a beamscort out of it, despite the tailgun. Dual APOs plus a single A2B will let you run APO 75% of the time, dual FAWs, then maybe toss a cannon skill in the leftover slot? Energy management is going to be a little trickier though. I guess we'll see.

    I have to wonder why the tailgun, it just seems a bit silly, I'm sure it's phaser energy though.

    Does seem extraneous since its already getting that boff layout, the 5 tac consoles out of the box, and the hull and shields boost.

    since the fleet patrol escort's layout is now gone..can we get it on the fleet defiant?

    Other ships being "obsolete" is a perception.

    To be fair, Escorts don't come with cloaks or hangars, except specialized ones like the Armitage and the Defiant. Though that fore wep slot I agree, unless the fused aft wep is a DHC turret or something.

    I love the look of this guy! Tons of flavor, and lots of sweet BOFF options!

    Don't know if it'll steal my love away from the Fleet Defiant-R I've been flying for over a year, but we'll see... :)

    I had just come to the forums today to pose my dilemma: VA Tac captain leveled up in escorts and now in his Patrol and Mirror Patrol Escorts wondering what I should do next. Should I drop fifty bucks on an Andorian bundle? or spend it on a cloaked fleet Defiant? or a Fleet Patrol? should I jump to an Avenger and fly it like an escort? so many decisions, and not being a long time vet I wasn't sure what to do.

    This little boat is a welcome announcement for me, and it sounds like it's setup to boost damage by flying it in just the style I like to fly.

    And it's cute to boot.

    You simply dont understand the intention. For the named escorts the new patrol is like the scimi is (and was) to all other ships, superior. On an equipped char, it might not be worth buying. But on a new char, why buy one of the escorts if you can have all in one? You can Mimik Defiant and Prom, and lose one Hangar for a tacconsole (which is not a bad deal) compared to the armitage. Plus you get an lt.cmd. uni. All other Escorts dont have an universal, but I hope they will get it someday.

    If they are going to muck everything up like this... Then the fleet defiant, JAS and Avenger need 6 tac consoles!

    Defiant has better turn-rate, a smaller profile (harder to spot and click in a furball), and can cloak.

    It definitely makes the FAE obsolete. Same turn-rate, more hit-points, more shields, more Sci BOFF seats (assuming uni). Better in every way.

    Nevermind that, lets have the fleet defiant copy the Kumari layout :D

    fed cloaking is a 1 off ambush ability only. the cd is too long. this new ship, while turning the game away from being a cruiser game somewhat. is also going to make obsolete every other escort including the defiant and bug.

    what we really need is mechanics that let cruiser and escorts be equal without making all the other escorts useless.

    to make room for this ship, i'll probably just discard my fleet veteran ship, regardless that im about to get 2 more slots. almost did when i got the hirogen hunter, but maybe i should just discard taht too? well, despite being down a LTC level power, it will still fly circles around this

    I'm especially excited that they are now looking to re-skin existing ships, giving them superior console and boff layouts so that we can pay for them a second time. Very cool!

    I sense a slight note of sarcasm in your post, and I see your point. However, some ships need exactly that, and I hope to see some more boff reorganization to some T5's. Which ones and how may be debatable, but I for one like the trend.

    Yeah, how long have escort pilots pledged to have at least the ens.tac as a universal slot. But now, how can you top a lt.cmd. universal on an escort which already has an lt.cmd. eng? 2 cmdr.?

    Why are you instantly filling both your new slots? While I'm going to be commissioning one extra 5 Fore weapon C-Store ship on a good number of my characters to store some of the more interesting fore-only weapons the Reps now give out daily, I'm not sure why'd you discard a non-reclaimable ship, even if it only costs one module, instead of just using one of the new slots.
