The Omega Rep, if you ask most players, has the best equipment availability of all the reps, though it can be confusing (Omega, Maco, Adapted Maco, KHG, and the Assimilated sets are all from the Omega Rep). The Romulan Rep has two sets available (Romulan and Reman only). The other reps only have one set available each. So, if you're looking for equipment, go Omega...

HOWEVER, if you are going with the storyline, the Romulan Rep is the one most attached to the overall storyline, followed by the Dyson. Nukara has nothing to do with the overall story (any more), and the Omega one is only vaguely attached to it, as the Borg missions technically precede the Solanae stuff (even though there are no extra missions attached to the Omega like there are the Romulan and Dyson reps)...

The STFs have a storyline to them, but damned if I know what it is since I never have time to read it.

Omega can be a rocky start for a newly minted 50. You can run them in cheap gear, and I have done it, but it takes some experience with the game to have the right build and adequate piloting skill to pull that off. You're better off getting some decent stuff from other sources first, then diving into the STFs. Also, please, PLEASE find yourself some walkthroughs for the STFs before trying to play them. When you drop in there, people will expect you to know the objectives and the common strategies. There are text walkthroughs, and video ones out there on YouTube.

Smart money for new players these days seems to be the Dyson rep. You can get heaps of marks and dilithium by playing the ground Battlezone, and you don't necessarily need to be that good since you can just sort of glom onto other good players and follow them around. You don't even need to actually team with them, just literally follow them (and hopefully learn from them too). You can also do dailies and found missions in the Dyson sphere Allied and Contested Zones for a more leisurely way of collecting marks.

Look also into the Obelisk and Solanae sets which can be obtained from replaying "Sphere of Influence" and "A Step Between Stars" respectively for some decent gear to start with, and also if flying an escort the Aegis Impulse Engine and Deflector are a decent pairing that can be bought on the exchange for a few million EC (or crafted if you have high enough crafting level)

If this is your 1st character I wouldn't just jump into elite stfs, but with the new rep system you can fast-track your rep leveling quite easily especially if you have a taste for ground combat for example.....

1st mission of any rep awards a purple mark award box of 55 marks which is enough to run the dailies and hourly projects 2 daily missions will give you T1 reputation in each rep you do it on so...

    Omega rep

Run the Defera ground hard missions with a team of 3 or more type " /channel_join KDFDefera" in you chat to make it easier to find a KDF group several of us run multiple alts all day long there for the fleet marks [easy 240 marks for the normal 4 hard missions]

    Undine Infiltration

The easiest by far of undine rep leveling about 10-15mins far easier than the other undine rep options.
*note there is currently an audio bug with this mission that carries over to all other maps so may wanna do this one last as a game restart is the only fix to clear the audio at present but still worth it for ease of completion

    Nukara ground

Get the easy missions and an EVA suit blow up the 10 lighted collectors grab science reports from vanquished tholian drops and your good

    Romulan rep

Grab the daily assist stage area mission complete in 5-10mins and grab your purple award box

    Dyson rep

You have easy options do the space daily or go to the ground battlezone help complete missions and pop t-rexs get your marks and a nice pile of dilithium for your time.

Hope that helps Warrior welcome to the KDF and good hunting, Qa'pla

crm14916 nailed it: Omega rep has the best overall gear, but other reps (as he describes) are now more linked to our current story line. It should be fairly easy to level-up two reps at once (at least your first two), in which case I'd recommend Omega and Romulan at the same time, then do Dyson, followed by Undine (possibly the last two together, though it might confuse you story-wise, proper order is Rom>Dyson>Undine).

I just wanted to add that if you're a costume fan, you can't go wrong with the Omega Rep.

The ground sets available in Omega unlock great costumes, each with multiple variations.

Personally, I think the Klingon Honor Guard costume is by far one of the best in the game, followed closely by the MACO costume (though I can't say I'm too much a fan of the Omega set appearance for Star Trek, it's still a good costume). The KHG is so good, nearly all my KDF toons wear it, sans helmet, as their regular day-to-day uniform, and my Starfleet characters have their MACO armor visuals ready to don whenever ground combat is eminent.

You can find/contact me in game as @PatricianVetinari. Playing STO since Feb 2010.

People are forgetting the BNPcs and the Voth implants.

My recommendation is, fill first all the tiers of any reputation you can without worrying of buying any item from em. Once you have em on Tier 5, now its time to adquire items, keeping in mind:

You DONT NEED any special weapon or equipment to gather reputation marks (with the exception of nukara, of course , that you need an EV suit and Omega that is far easier using anti borg weapons), but if you dont feel comfortable, as people said you will receive a equipment reward everytime you complete a tier project.

For the Omega Reputation you will need borg neural processors, that CAN ONLY be adquired doing Elite STFS. So by that time you should start with normal stfs, and when you have expereience, make the step to Elite STFS.

For the Dyson Reputation, you will need Voth cybernetic implants, that CAN ONLY be adquired doing teamed runs on the ground dyson battlezon (there is no need for you to stay in a team, but you will need backup from other players, there is no way to complete a run in the dyson battlezone by your own). Dont worry, once you are running with more players, its really easy to gather voth cybernetic implants , the final step will be to kill the dino, but its not a big deal. You dont even need specific weapons, just some basic playing skills.

For the Undine reputation, i cant say much since i am not doing it, but you need isomorfic injectors, that can be adquired doing the dyson undine space battlezone (that is a pain in the axxx for the stupid lag, its almost better to just do the stfs) or the stfs (or watever name they have).

You dont need any special items to gather romulan reputation equipment or nukara equpiment, just a huge ammount of marks (as well the other reps).

I have been level 50 for a long time, but I have only just recently started to work on the Omega Rep for both my Fed and KDF toons. I have not bought any gear yet I am simply going through the tiers; currently working on tier 3. Prior to season 9 you needed different types of commodities to do the projects to advance the tiers. That is no longer necessary. All you need to spend now are Omega marks, Energy Credits and XP.

I recommend playing the regular STF 1st just to get a feel for the various missions. After you feel comfortable, then play the elite STF. Infected: The Conduit is the easiest of all the Borg space STFs. There is very little coordination required. Simply follow the other players. I did the regular STF once or twice before queuing up the elite version.

Elite STFs (eSTF) are more difficult than the normal STFs, but it is still possible to do it with a generic un-optimized starship because that is what I do. I use phasers from "Everything Old is New" / plasma-disruptors from "Second Star To the Right..." for my Fed / KDF toons. The most advance gear is from "A Step Between Stars" which was the featured episode for season 8.5. As long as you have good piloting skills and you develop good combat tactics you should be okay. My ship is un-optimized because I haven't gotten around to promoting my Boffs beyond Lieutenant or Lt. Commander. However, I will say that eSTF has gotten tougher in season 9.

The Borg eSTFs drops BNP (Borg Neural Processors) that are require for some or all gear. Since it will take some time to get to Tier 4 / 5, you should have some time to gather them up before going on a shopping spree.

Personally, I think I will get the complete set, but not quite sure yet.

My Fed toon is also working on the Dyson rep system and I am thinking about doing the Romulan rep system for my KDF toon so that when I reach Romulan Tier 5 the Reman race is unlocked which means I don't have to spend 500 Zen to buy the Reman to use for a Romulan toon.

What about all these XP Bonus, Skill Expert Bonus and the Stars flying across my screen in battle. These all count for excellent player. The omega, nuk and the dyson battle (dino gives you 480) everything else at the dyson is like 60 on the ground zone. I play this daily stack up a lot of points.

True what you all have said either have a team which I had started over the weekend some very good players assisted me so I could keep taking down the Bio-Dino which I am good at, but that's all I did over the weekend is taking down so many of them. Team support is good though. Optional if you can find the right team players.

It's a lot of running around, battlezone can get out of control. With the right weapon you win from one of the regular missions that weapon can take down the Bio-Dino if you keep shooting and spinning around. Got a lot of objects that keep you from taking it down. Everyone trying to take it down also.

Use what you have to protect yourself if your not in a team. Make sure you have a Med on your crew with you. Tac officers seems not to come to your aid when you call for help if your down. I equip all beaming parties with the right gear. Never leave home with shoes on your feet why would you beam down no doing the same thing.

Just keep at it until you get what you want, but in the end you'll know your done your best! :D

The "Traditional" Elite Space STFs - Infected, Khitomer and Cure - are all perfectly doable without any specialist equipment. Of the three, Infected is probably the easiest for a new player because you can't really fail it (you can fail the optional, but not the whole thing).

Personally I usually find Cure is probably the quickest when trying to PUG the Elite queues; but then I typically end up being the one doing most of the running about... ;)

Concerning rewards, the MACO space shield is one of the best you can get in the game. And the ground equipment sets are all very worthwhile - for doing Borg missions it's very handy to have at least one full set for the instant Remodulator, and the Omega Armor is arguably one of the best options available anywhere.

I find it very easy to farm marks for the Romulan (via Epoph raising), Borg (via ESTFs) and Dyson (via Battlezone) rep tiers, and a little more of a grind for the rest... but it shouldn't be too much of a stretch to get enough of everything to keep yourself working through Daily rep missions. Especially with the Daily Mark Bonuses you get now... :)

[Edit: Oh, and it probably goes without saying, but check Episode Replay to outfit yourself in decent high-level gear before attempting too many of the endgame instances! For space gear, there's a variety of setups, but you can usually make youself a nice starting build with things like the Dyson Warp Core and the Hargh'peng Torp or Plasma-Disruptor Hybrids... and for ground gear; pick up a random shield/armor, then grab a Pulsewave, a Rifle, a remodulator and spam "Assimilation" for Kit modules]

Another thing ... Tau Dewa is probably going to become your "home" sector ... You can grind for every mark type from there.

Dailies = Tau Dewa Patrol for Romulan Marks and the Tholian Red Alert for Nukara/Fleet Marks. (The Tholian RA also helps complete the Patrol Daily mission)

Dyson Battlezone = Dyson and Undine Marks, with a "team" you can easily get several hundred Dyson/Undine Marks from around 1/2 grinding, plus countless random loot drops, and of course several thousand Dilithium. Or just "join in" with everyone else, as there is almost always someone running around the Dyson BZ's killin' stuff.

Run around on the ground and kill Dino's for Dyson Marks, then jump back into your ship, activate/turn on gadgets and devices and kill Undine for Undine Marks.

The Borg STF's can be done from anywhere, so no need to travel for them.

Easy mode = Romulan Rep - Tagging Epohh's plus the associated DoFF missions and doing other random stuff on New Romulus, nets you a steady stream of Romulan Marks.

On a side note you CAN very rarely get BNP's from "normal" STF's, but Elite ones guarantee them. You can also again, very rarely, get VCI's from the loot boxes you get from Rep XP projects.
Oh, hoho hohhhhh, Oh,, hoho, hohhhhh
