I understand you had announced the idea to the rep system change weeks before it was put into place. You are also within your rights to make changes the way you see fit according to the ToS. But I want to ask you: Why did you not make a poll on whether the players wanted the change? Is it because you are afraid of the players telling you the Rep system overhaul for Season 9 was unwanted? Is it because your players would tell you it is unfair to the veteran players?
Seriously reconsider changing the rep system back to Season 8 Style, with us having ALL of our rep abilities active. Didn't we earn the right to have them available without having to change them out and causing the gameplay to slow to a crawl while we wait for other players to change out their rep abilities every time we go against different enemies? Honestly, the idea behind it was okay, but the execution of said idea was just punishing for the vets and caters more to the new players.
If you are worried about future power creep in future content, why not just make newer content much harder? DCUO does this by making players have the right level of gear before going into the newest content.
Can you please bring the Season 8 Rep back and implement a "combat Rating" of sorts? I would rather have to earn gear to run the newest content instead of getting reigned back.
They didn't poll the players because that is not how the industry works.
If they were to ask for everyones opinions of new content before putting it in, then fairly soon they would end up with a product that would be unplayable
Frankly I like the new system anyway.
It's not myfault ifyoufeel trolledbymyDisco ball...Sorry'boutit.
STO apparently doesn't want to gate content. Therefore, they have to make new content playable by veterans and new level 50s. If the Reputation system wasn't changed, then new content would become far too easy and boring for vets. So it was a choice between making new content not available to new level 50s or the Reputation Trait revamp. Gear Ratings are uncomfortable to new level 50s. If they want to play new content, then they have to grind through content that they hate. With the reputation system, new level 50s can do whatever content they want.
Neverwinter (another game made by Cryptic) has gated content with their new Reputation that is coming out in a couple of weeks. It requires a gearscore of 10,000 which is possible by getting all basic very rare equipment and getting to Tier 3 in a previous reputation.
Content gating doesn't run off new players. All it does is tell the new 50's to run the older content to get to the new content. I do it all the time on DCUO. The new Amazon Fury Part 1 requires cr 99 just to even do the basic solo missions there. So I am happy to run Fight for the Light Missions till I get the gear needed for the AF P1 dlc.
It just means that new 50's will be better prepared for the newer, HARDER, content.
The change to the reputation system is not as bad as I thought it would. My biggest problem has been the increased use of insti-kill weapons be The Borg, apart from that all is well.
I like the new system. I can adjust my traits to fit the occasion, and I really have fun mix and matching traits. I really don't know see why people are so butt hurt over it. Sure, if the system was set so you had to pay for a respect everytime you wanted to change, I could understand, but considering you can adjust what you want, what's the problem?

Content gating is not about running off new players, but design philosophy. The devs have made the choice that all content is available to everyone and not people that have grinded for months at some reputation.
The problem with DCUO is that if I like Amazon content, but don't like Green Lantern content, then I have to run through the Green Lantern content or some other content I might hate to do the stuff I want. That is not a problem with doing the Reputation content in STO.

That's right. The problem with the rep in STO is there's no longer any point in doing any of it.

Absolutely true.
Who needs new phasers, disruptors, consoles, sets and set items? What point is there to ever change a power in your inventory, it was already a waste to have so many bridge officers in the game, when no one will ever change his power selection anyway. Seriously, what are they thinking?
Time for a level cap increase and new types of item slots, otherwise the game will forever be static. And dead and whatnot.

Levels are basically completely useless in STO, because it would take all of about half an hour to reach any new level cap. New types of items to equip, definitely. One of the things with "new rep stuff" is that it's all pointless because you can't equip any of it, as your ship is already full!

You can also use only one ship at a time, so why are there so many ships?

Obviously, it is going to become our Fleet when an Admiral system is implemented. There is supposed to be an expansion this year or early next year that doesn't have a new mini-faction and level cap increases are usually part of expansions in other MMOs.

Cryptic will probably make the Fleet Admiral rank just that, a level cap increase with maybe, if we're lucky, and new shiney.....I mean ship. I seriously doubt they'll let us send BOFFs to command our other ships in drydock, because that would be another powercreep that they want to Nerf Nuke the hell out of.

From a performance point of view, there isn't any need for the more expensive ships. After all, since "all content is available to everyone," you can do everything with the ships you're given for free while leveling up.
At most, a budget-concious player should get a fleet ship for the extra hull/shields and the 10th console slot. Beyond that, the benefits are negligible. Certainly there is no rational reason to shell out 400-500 million EC for a bugship.
But ships have unique looks to them. As much as better ships are statistically speaking unnecessary, there is at least a cosmetic reason to get ones you like.
I have tons of expensive ships, including a bug (although I didn't pay 400 million for it). I bought them because I like their style. I still think its a pity they don't let me do anything I can't do on a farmer toon flying free ships, though.
