Fails miserably.

There's no learning curve to pvp in its current state. It's just a wall.

Keel'el is the number one buy. I wouldn't TRIBBLE around too much unless you have him on your crew
    Chive on and prosper, eh?

Meh, now with team powers cd removal it's not as important. In a pure pug match though, yeah, he can be quite useful.

I think you can have a lot of good advices and/or a build if you tell us the career of you toon and the ship you fly.

Well you should return when geko leaves sto pvp alone.Till then its 1 player to rule them all design so its a waste of time to try to play. This game is only about 1 player who can faw(or outcheese) everything around him ...thats how you get new people in the game .

even better when you see 1 scimitar destroying a team of 5 escorts in 2-3 seconds...thats good game design right there.

^^^^^[Fun fact] This guy did just that for me when i first joined the game oh so many geko cycles ago [/Fun fact]^^^^^
    Was always that way

Not really though. Let's time warp to ~ S4:

If a player wanted to learn how to counter a build/strategy within a couple of hours of in game time you could explain whats going on, set them up, have them respec, get them gear, and if they were only vaguely serious about listening and improving they'd be on their way, feeling that they were in a better place then a few hours ago. Whatever was missing in terms of EC, or XP for a respec, or (was it DIL back then?) for a ship, they could get quickly, and all available options (except for the Gal-X) were competitive/

I m not saying that they were equipped to take on a TSI premade solo. They didn't have all accx3 weapons, but whatever rare gear boosts where in game, the added bonus was negligible. Also within reason (bugs just happen not only at cryptic) there was a counter to every strategy available to all.

Now if new players ask question, the response boils down to: 1) get rich in RL 2) buy dil and EC, (get FC) plunder the exchange for doffs and gear, buy fleet gear 3) role a romulan 4) play a few months of reps, and then 5) we can talk about counterplay in PvP.

It's whats taking the fun out of PvP more then anything else for me. Loadouts are a step in the right direction, so is not releasing new boff powers with the latest lockbox. Same goes for Rep limits. These are all steps in the right direction imv, but we still have a long way to go after 9 seasons of leaps into the opposite direction.

The first wasn't a wall for those that asked and wanted to improve. Now we do have a wall, and it is pretty high for new kids on the block.

I saw this happen just the other day - a tac Scimitar with ApA+GDF+TT+BFAW3 - basically vaped 4 players in his firing arcs(essentially everywhere around him)

sadly I was one of those 4:(

What season was JHAS and the Temporal ships?

Anyway to me the hurdle was less about gear and more about the spam. You can give somebody fleet modules and decent gear from the exchange but they will still lockup when they hit the first EWP.

that keeps the players in game and brings new ones lol :D

i bet if you ask them they will say "escorts have to hit and run" ....all 4....thats having hard times against 1 single ship thats not even a super tank.

1 PVP should have separate RULES from PVE.

2 PVP needs a classic queue - No Universal Consoles and No Doffs.
This will provide everyone a level playing field in PVP.

3 Maybe even a damage cap equal on all ships.

If people would post their build on these kind of posts it would be helpful. Your obviously doing something wrong that people on these forums can put right for you.

normally I would agree, but now, instead of asking what build someone is using you have to ask what build, what rep have you done, how much Dil, EC and Lobi someone has or can get... it's just ridiculous. The entry bar is now at least 2 months after levelling toon (unless you have rep tokens). Even returning players have at least a month, probably more of doing that.

thats a big part of why my help thread has gone cold. to much time and cost associated with building top tier ships, and WAY to many items in the system now for me to give a truly clear recommendation on what would even be best to use on any given ship/build

Some edits you should do concerning sci:
    1) "Right now everyone and their brother has Power Insulators. This is giving them a 75 percent resist to all shield drain attacks."
Most people have 35-50% resist. Even if you go above 100 in the skill, the improvement above 50% is very small. Then again, none of the drain build I saw in your list would do anything to someone with six points spent on PI.

    2) Tachyon Beam does work given the right build.

    3) Stop recommending the warp theorist energy siphon doff, it's worthless. Why slot a doff that procs for 5 seconds once every 2 minutes?

    4) The 2 new Undine Lock Box space traits and the Sensor Analysis change add a whole other dimension to sci abilities.

Keep pushin' that Tachyon beam bro. May work against your failnoobs in Ker'rat but is still useless against any competent PvP'er.

DOFFed tractor beams +mines and pets = 8 times the drain from tachyon beam. The skill is worthless.

For Fed ones, maybe not. For KDF ones, pretty much 100% sure that they are.
