Idea on how to make things better

zurganuszurganus Member Posts: 108 Arc User
I just had a thought while wandering around in game, one of the things another sci fi MMO did was have a guild summit before they released. They invited the leaders of the various guilds that were forming out to their studios and listened to their ideas on how to make things better in the game.

Now given we are 4 years into Star Trek Online, a long time since release. But I think that this could be something that could be used here. Now I am not saying fleet leaders really, but just the community as a whole. A gathering of sorts where the players could ask questions and not get run around answers. Where the players could voice their concerns about the game and its direction.

One of the many things I feel like alot of people have discovered as of late is that Cryptic is out to make money, and thats great, thats what a company does. But this forum of sorts could be used to see what the players think on that. Like what changes could be made to lockboxes for example that would make people want to open more of them. What items could be included in these boxes or how these boxes could be themed.

Like I said, I am just throwing out an idea, and I am hoping Cryptic takes notice of this post, cause quite honestly I think it could alleviate alot of the angst the community feels. Now given thats not all the community that feels that way, myself included. But to be given the chance to speak face to face and say what we think would be an awesome opportunity.

Anyways, carry on peoples.

How can I put this gently....I would not trust this community to lead a game of hide and seek, let alone an MMORPG. Gamers are complete and utter dunderheads when it comes to game design for the masses. Everyone would push their own damn interests and say to hell with everyone else. There is a reason why most of us are not in the game design business and it should remain that way. Leave Cryptic alone and just play the game.

A long, long time ago, Cryptic attempted to do the player council thing. It was a horrible, horrible, unmitigated disaster. We will never see anything like that again and it's better this way. If they want player feedback, they can read the forums. That's what they're here for.

There used to be the "ask cryptic" segment every so often where a selection of popular questions, and suggestions were adressed by the team.
I'd love to see this back again chaps/chapess's.

I have another idea, even better. Cryptic, listen to your customers. As simple as that. No need for anything more. And stop writting non sense things, that will never be real.

    The bolded underlined leaning bit?

Yeah, that's a good way to ruin a game.

The Customer is not always right. The customer is a massive moron who has zero clue what they want and should only be seen and NEVER heard from.

Ignore him. I don't think there is anything cryptic could do that would satisfy him.

If cryptic gave him a million zed free he's complain that it wasn't 2 million.

Yeah, your idea is TRIBBLE. The fact that someone can disagree with any idea is EXACTLY why listening to customers is a bad idea. Trying to design a game around so many conflicting opinions only ends up making the game worse. It is far better for game designers to stick to their own vision of the game and have it attract people want to play THAT game than constantly flop around trying to please everyone and end up failing horribly. If you dislike the direction the game is, you are free and encouraged to leave. This is not a monogamous relationship. Cryptic, hell every game developer does not mind if you sample other games. They don't really mind. Totally cool if you want to get all up in TESO Raiding on the weekend and swing by STO for a ten minute PVP quickie.

This is probably the most incorrect, idiotic and clueless statement I've ever read on these forums.

Unfortunately, it is the truth. I don't know what it is about Gaming forums, but the second people log into them, they get the notion that the entire freaking game should cater and revolve around that single person exclusively. And then they somehow think that everyone plays and experiences the game the exact same way.

No, it isn't the truth. Any business that does not listen to their customers does not stay in business.

Actually it is. Successful businesses don't listen to the customer. They make the customer THINK they are being listened to because the business takes one simple and harmless idea, making the customer think they came up with it, implement it and then make a big deal of going "Your feedback made this possible!", thereby assuaging the masses while not actually taking their advice.

Again, another reason why customers are idiots.
