Hey Guys,
I was "off" for most of season 8 and now I'm back and I see these new bleached ships available in the c-store. Now my sci capn is still using the old Voquv (and doing quite well in it I might add), I however always wanted a nice Klingony sci ship (I do have the Gorn ships as well) So I was wondering what are your thoughts on those new Dyson Sci ships? Are they worth the cost or should I stick with my tried and trusted space-whale and its mini-me's..
Cheers

-Roach, when asked about Klingon extinction!
Two totally different ships, the playstyle for one being pretty unsuitable for the other. Still both very good ships (I use both on different characters), but they don't really make for a direct comparison.
Guess I should have been clearer.. Im trying to move away from carrier style play.. I suppose my question should have been: Does the c-store Dyson Sci ship make a good sci ship?

If you weren't here during season 8 I wouldn't touch the Dyson ship. The ship is build to be used with a certain set and at this point that set can only be completed if you buy an additional Dyson ship from the lobby store for 600 lobby.
So... Everything but this one.
If you are a sci and want something new, give the raiders after the current revamp a shot. Those are pretty unique ships and work fine for scis.
Eh, this is completely personal opinion based on my playstyle - but I find the DSD completely lackluster. I was first dissapointed because it doesn't have Klingon appearance, but then I was even more dissapointed with her preformance. Not to mention all the 2-piece, 3-piece, 4-piece set issues you'd have if you don't already have the anniversary one.
This is however my personal opinion, so take it with a grain of salt. I know people that swear by them, so.....And it's a science ship with a cloak that can mount DHCs, so that's nice.
I'd recommend trying the B'rel like revandarklighter sugested and turning her into the ultimate science troll ship or a cloaked healer. Works well that way.
I also have to recommend the Korath Temporal Science Ship if you happen to have a lot of EC laying around, arguably the best Klingon science ship availible.
c-store/fleet = Karfi makes a fun offensive/brawling sci carrier
if you have access to a fleet spire, much more fun than voquv.
lockbox
- expensive / wells is very expensive and rarely available
- cheapish / voth palisade is very accessible and easy to set up as a torpedo boat
- cheap / orb weaver has great tank and is versatile, less manouvreable than palisade though
- unknown price / Krenn temporal destroyer has a universal LtC and LT spot, 4/3 armament, an excellent sciscort
- unknown price / korath temporal science ship is more of a pure sci boat but can be set up as a an excellent torp platform too.

Yes, I agree with this, I don't know how I forgot the Kar'fi! The regular or the fleet one regardless - it's a very good heavily science slanted carrier. Note that in order to have access to it's unique pet - the Fer'jai Frigate, you need to have the C-Store one, even if you have the fleet one already.

Few points:
The Korath and the Wells come from the same box, as well as the R'mor. If a Fed opens the box - there's a Wells, if a KDF does - there's a Korath and if a Rom does - there's a R'mor. Therefore, the price is the same, it basically depends on who opens the box.
I got a Krenn a couple of months ago, traded a Tal'Shiar for it, but I remember the price being around 75 mil. EC at the time. Could be a bit more now since a little time has passed, haven't checked, but shouldn't be more than 100 mil.
There is not much the dyson can do that a BOP can't do better. The dyson IS a decent sci ship, sure, but the tac mode cannon is junky (compared to 4 real cannons...) and the officer seating is minor (Bop can seat however you want). Bop is a little more fragile, but not so much you would notice: the same things one-shot both ships (invisible death torp crits or torp spread crits from elites at a bad time, or borg death beams, etc) anyway, and you can out-heal normal hits in both ships.
The karfi is amazing but its a slow carrier, which is unlike the dyson --- there is no comparison between these.

slow? you should see me piloting my karfi like it was a BoP
Karfi is fairly unique among sci-carriers having reasonable manouvrability akin to heavy cruisers.
but yeh, it is not a sciscort, and dyson can fill that role maybe. but then given the price, i think the temporal destroyer is a better buy at under 100 mil ec on exchange.

hehe That is true. But, wanna' see a real beast? The Command Bortasqu' with 4 tac.consoles and SA.

also worth looking at the Tal Shiar destroyer which has a decent sci provision, thugh less tanky than dyson. http://sto.gamepedia.com/Tal_Shiar_Adapted_Destroyer
i get the impression you are really looking for a destroyer/escort with strong sci provision, right?
I'm lucky Mark has most of the ships so I can try before I buy
I just picked one up on the Exchange. I don't know what the pricing will fall to, but they are around 1 million at the moment.
