The Beamscort has become a reality

The new Nicor out of the lockbox will have the perfect Boff/weapons layout for a viable beamscort, plus the higher hull regen will give it the survivability it needs.

Couple that with a ltcomm sci slot and it becomes almost silly how powerful this ship is going to be. (sci team 1, hazards 2, tss3 anyone?)

Also five tac consoles.

Discuss.

Im thinking...

TT1/BO2/BFAW3/APO3
ET1/DEM1/EPTW3
EPTE1/A2DAMP
ST1/HE2/TSS3

Keelel, a2D doffs, maybe a conn tt redux doff or so.

Unkillable trollboat? ^ That actually can do damage?

lol!

Beamscorts have been around...but the "skilled" folks have generally made fun of folks running them, that they're not good enough to run cannons, etc, etc, etc.

Compare the Nicor even to the Chel Grett, for that matter...

    -1500 Hull
    +1 Tac Console
    -1 Eng Console
    +1 Turn
    +0.02 Impulse Mod
    +Improved Hull Regen
Meh, Console Comparison would require stats.

    X, X

    vs.

    X, X

    X, X

good for kerrat trolling but that build has no place on a organized team.
Beam arrays on escorts is silly anyway, its about time they be restricted to cruisers and sci ships.

    Why is it silly?

Heh, my M.Qin is a Beamraptor!

It would be funny if these ships took extra damage from Undine rep weapons...but maybe I'm just being too hopeful lol

The addition of the 8th beam array with say a tac captain may very will give it enough raw burst damage from a "broadside" to score kills though.

Especially if one foregoes FAW for multiple beam overloads. BAs can crit for 40k, which is respectable enough.

my chel beam boat was quite powerful, and this ship absolutly beats the pants off of it, AtB build or no on the Nicor

might as well make this the pvp thread for the box. what do you heal boat users think of the cruiser, with a COM eng and 2 LTC sci and LT tac? recluse beating?

Just doesn't seem like there is enough overcap to make the beams hit as hard as a cruiser when marion isn't up, although it could b e good in bursts i guess.

Not quite enough eng for me that way. I would rather have the recluse layout when using the cmdr uni as eng. If I try to mimic that layout on the Nicor and use the Lt Cmdr uni as eng it will have 1 less ensign sci skill and 1 extra tac skill I don't need along with no pets, less hull and less shields. Just Cmdr eng by itself isn't enough to be able to run 2 emergency powers, an et, aux2sif, extends, and RSP, I have a hard enough time with setups like that when using the uni on an oddy as sci and only left with Cmdr and ensign eng which is the bare minimum I can work with as a healer.

Single Lt Cmdr sci is good enough as I can still slot all 3 sci heals with it and use doffs to keep the ST at global.

who needs RSP and extends? no one stays close enough for extends, and a high aux TSS3 and ST3 should more then make up for lame TRIBBLE crutch RSP. damage control doffs could get you EPtA1 and EPtS2, or just EPtS1 and 2, with ET3 and AtS3. the 2 LTC sci could be used for whatever combo of HE, TSS and ST you think works best, with 2 TTs, or a TT and APD. ET, ST, and TT can all get down to global with 2 doffs too if you like. seems like less of a tank, more of a raw healing numbers ship.

Nah. Scrubs are players who impose their personal rules onto a game. Not someone who doesn't know what's what. You just gotta learn. ;)

I've tried to impose my personal rules on the game...but everybody needs to do a couple thousand more /facepalms to experience the brain damage required to understand what I'm getting at. ;)

HoBO is still occasionally running premades using conventional escorts like bugs, I can usually keep extends on them and run 2 copies. Some times we run teams with all vapers and a recluse and sci ship or 2 recluses, when we run teams like that RSP helps as there are times where you are the only target. The doubled up sci heals does sound good though, I may at least try it, and the lt tac will make it easier to pug since they dont give out TT.

Too bad you need to get the bio-ship for that console. Just think on a science troll boat with high aux - spam the fluid console, the black goo console, GW3, Grav Pulse - and some other science spam for all the LOLZ!!

OK I just went and read the blogs.... lol What.

"Bioships that “hear” this pulse will quickly join your ship in battle and channel their energy into the focusing array before it is released in a massive blast. The summoned ships will immediately return to Fluidic Space afterwards."

I'm sure the RP players are twisting in there shorts.

So if I get this right... while fighting Undine... you click a console on the ship you stole from them... that attracts a bunch more of there ships to join you from fluidic space... help you blow up the real Undine your shooting at... and then they go home ?

I think Cryptic better hire some writers with IQs north of 80.

    Those are nice ship layouts.

Too bad they're being wasted on lockbox/lobi ships that will end up orbiting around homeworld and look really silly parked there, rather than more legit faction designs.

    Pfft.

Makes sense to me if you figure bioships are like fluidic space wildlife, and you're summoning the equivalent of an elephant stampede.

But yeah, I'm just reaching here while they refuel my jetski and fill up the shark tank.

the warship is stupid powerful. 8 weapons, 5 tac consoles, COM tac with uni LTC and sci LTC, its got everything but a cloak. basically makes all tac cruisers, warships and destroyers obsolete, i don't think anything has quite obsoleted so much, so hard, and all at once, as this has.

I guess it won't be long until they release dual commander setups like they had originally planned for the Defiant/Galaxy/Intrepid refits in S2.

I think we getting a little carried away...the nicor is a chell grett that does 10% more damage. Its going to hit hard but 1.0 shield mod will see this pop all over the place. Needs BC :)

I agree. Every new lockbox/lobi ship is projected as being *the* ship to upset the apple cart...until reality sets and and people begin discovering its flaws. Yes, the Nicor may hit hard, but it's also eminently killable - and that's all that really matters in the end. Had they given it something like the Elachi escort's 1.3 shield mod I might agree that it was OP. But they didn't, which was smart on Cryptic's part - keep it "balanced."

Note, also, that the Hirogen Hunter makes a decent beam-scort platform. In fact, if you tune it correctly you can easily hit cruiser level damage levels in a very fast, maneuverable ship. And best of all, when you get bored with beam-play you can swap them out for cannons and go in a whole new direction. :)

    Seems possible.

Cmdr + Cmdr + Lt Cmdr + Ensign, since their current BO balancing "math" apparently only counts number of slots, not the level.

But doesn't the Vo'Quv already have the Cmdr + Lt Cmdr + Lt Cmdr + Ensign setup? So that could be their excuse.

    I wonder:
Borg Hull Proc bugfixed values + Undine innate healing ability = Borg Hull Proc before bugfix?
