Yeah, yeah...it tends to be a PvE topic. Folks wanting to 5man with an away team - those thinking it might be more like a GBZ thing with 2 BOFFs in ships...etc, etc, etc.
Going with the latter...you and 2 BOFF ships - what do you think something like that would do to PvP were it introduced? A 5v5 becoming a 15v15, with 10 players and 20 BOFF'd boats?
Wonder how the kill mechanic would work, though. AI shops aren't very handy at all most of the time - case in point being Fleet Support, aside from when you get a battleship with a tractor beam.

Lol, yeah...it's just one of those let Cryptic know...yeah, this might not be a good thing sort of things.
Player in a full Carrier. 2 NPCs in full Carriers.
5 Players a side. 10 NPCs a side.
10 Players. 20 NPCs.
Everybody launch fighters!
Wheee...zrrrrrk...orrrrrg...kerrrrash.
aldo's thread got me thinking about MechCommander instead of MechWarrior - which got me thinking about RTS - which got me thinking about the Space Away Team threads that keep popping up - which got me thinking about a combination FPS/RTS PvP angle in STO - which pretty quickly led to the kerrrrrash above...lol.

Interesting enough idea, though, for a new type of 1v1, perhaps - but even that would stress the engine......now that would be real Admiral gameplay.
Or if the engine was capable of building extra large maps - where you would be unlikely to see too many of your opponents at the same time, or linked maps, where accomplishing an objective in one map would do something in another.
AI couldnt manage it. not even if them make ability using better, the ai driving the behavior isnt up to it. just look at how npc's behave, even without weapons or abilities being used, it hasnt got a clue about positioning, coordination, movement between positions.
It is kind of funny, in a sad way, looking at how friendly NPCs in missions behave - then things like Nimbus, Photonic, Fleet Support...and seeing that it would be little more than spammy fodder.
Couldn't imagine them dropping out the Ground petbars for ships with 12-16+ abilities on them.
It's one of those..."oh, that would be cool" things that folks need to take a moment to think about the actual implementation and how atrocious it would likely end up being...and thus, a waste of resources imho.
I think it might be something fun for PvE. If nothing else it'd be a fantastic revenue generator for Cryptic. Can you imagine outfitting three ships?
Can definitely see where it would be fun for PvE...generate the revenue - and - all of that. Just think that for PvP, the potential "cool" factor that some might feel would be overwhelmed by the "mehwtf" factor of the probable implementation.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

This. There are way too many npcs in pvp already.

'Who' do you think you are, the Eleventh Doctor?
