In need of advice – Bug ship build

Hello.

Recently, I decided I wanted a Bug ship. Maybe all that exposure to Cryptic’s advertising has finally started to affect me. Mostly, I think I was just sick of trying to pilot the space whale of a 2xAux2bat-BFAW cruiser I was using before, (especially with those fluidic rifts coming in season 9).

In any case, after a lot of Zen spent and a lot of exchange trades made, (because I wanted to buy the bug ship – not buy a chance to win one), I finally got ahold of one for my engineer. Then I promptly realized I had no idea how to set it up.

I only had a couple million ec left over after all the trades I had made, so after moving anything semi-useful over from the cruiser, I bought some cheap junk off the exchange too fill the holes. This is the build I’m currently running:

http://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/?build=bugbetabuild_6678

While I’ve been having a blast flying this thing, it obviously has some major flaws in its current setup, and I’d love to see some people’s thoughts.

First, I’m generally more interested in PVE than PVP. Not to say I wouldn’t be interested in it someday but I wouldn’t want to center a build around it.

I’m also not currently in a fleet. I will eventually want to get a hold of some of that gear, (just don’t know the best way to get credits. I’m not looking forward to joining some massive t5 fleet where all the projects are filled before you see them posted). So it will no doubt be a while before I can get any of those cool spire tactical consoles or fleet shields/warpcores.

I’m loving the Phased Polarons. I know they’re probably better for drain boats, and there are better energy types out there, but I just love the energy drain/phaser proc with the leech drain and max flowcaps, (and I think they look cool). Think mk 12s with [Acc]x2 are worth getting, or would another mod be better? I’ve always believed that you can’t go wrong with [Acc].

Any thoughts on substitute shields, warpcores that could do me until I can get some fleet stuff? And what kind of consoles should I be looking at? I certainly don’t want to part with the leech, and I want 5 tac consoles but what else should be there? Would it be worth saving lobi for a tachyokinetic converter, or saving up for dominion ship consoles?

What about doffs? Honestly I’ve been almost completely ignoring doffs on this toon. The only active doffs I have right now are 3x ‘Ten of Ten’s as that’s the only doff chain I’ve completed.

What about boff skills? Personally, I like having one of each of the ‘team’ skills available on my ships, especially now that the shared cooldown is gone, but I’d be open to switching things up there. The aux2bat in the lieutenant slot can go too, it’s just a carryover from my cruiser build I haven’t changed yet.

Sure there’s lots of things I haven’t thought of too. Been looking through a lot of the builds in the Skill Planner and previous posts on bug builds, but many of them look pretty dated and don’t reflect the current state of skills and gear in the game. Just looking for a more current perspective.

I’d appreciate any thoughts you all might have on the subject.

First off not a mad first build. I run a Aux 2 batt build on my bug. I will post my build after the post and edit. I would recommend getting the mkxii jem'hadar set. I would also go with fleet polaron with locator consoles from the spire. With my aux to bat build I have decided to run a torpedo, which I normally don't. My tac Boff abilities are set up two ways. One set for multiple targets and the other for a single target.

I run epte to speed tank. It allows you to get in and out of the fight quickly and reduce damage coming in. So the warp core I change because of amp. Amp does not buff weapons like other modifiers in the game, it add the damage to the back end of the calculation. I chose weapons to aux to give more aux for the aux to bat. I also changed the torp to get the 3% crit chance you had. I understand that the Lobi item might take time but the technceatic converter adds crith/d and acts like a rcs console. Run the mkxi Jem set until you are able. If you don't like the epte because you are a cruiser pilot think about EPtW for the ten percent damage increase. I also went with fleet polaron with accx2 to allow it to overflow to crith/d.

If you like cruisers and since you have the bug, I would tell you to take your time and go get the Jem dread carrier. You now have access to some of the best pets in the game.

There is a diplomat purple that gives a chance to drain weapons power from enemies. It is a voth. With the polaron and the Plasmonic leech you can render your enemies weapons useless.

If you don't have access to this some fleet holdings for some of this join the NoP Public Service channel. It might take time for someone to respond, but people will grant access to their fleet holding for free. I would still join a fleet, that allows you to build fleet credits, find a small but active fleet that is tier three or four. Nothing says you have to play with them.

    Thanks for the advice.

I had almost forgotten about the Jem'Hadar set. Historically, I never had the lobi readily available for it, but those mk xii stats are pretty impressive. I've used the tachyokinetic converter before, on another char, and found it great so I'll probably go for it eventually. I think the cirts make for a better console than something like a fleet neutronium with turn. I'll work towards them, though after buying the bug I think I'll go back to dilithim refining for keys and whatnot, instead if buying them outright, (wanted to pick up the bug before it disappeared from the exchange again).

I also like the flexibility in your tac skills for single/multiple targets.

Definitely going to grab some fleet gear when I'm able. Just can't argue with those stats. Might take a while, but I'm sure I'll find a good fleet for credit generation. Thanks for the tips.

Jem dreadnaught carrier is on my list, though it's a long ways down the road. :)
