I was playing around with a crit calculator trying to figure out what weapon modifiers would be best to use when I reached a box asking for the target's defence stat.
Is there a way to determine a target's defence stat (eg Borg Cube, sphere, Voth cruisers) or is it a complete mystery to what the defence stats for npc ships are?
Stationary targets with no extra buffs are -15% defense. The rest are dependent on their move speed, so 0-50% defense is typical, depending on the ship and the situation. Cubes and Voth Citadels are closer to 0-25%, Spheres, Probes, and Voth Palisades are closer to 25-40% unbuffed.
...The actual numbers other than the penalty for being a sitting duck are complete random guessing, but should help you see the trend. Smaller & faster = more defense, but unless the NPC gets a buff, they usually don't hit the 23-ish impulse speed for max defense.
