Is a purple colored bridge officer better than a blue or green? I think it means it is very rare compared to the others, but if I trained all my current bridge officers to the stuff I need, should I keep them or change one of them for a purple colored anyway? Is there any difference between them?
The only real difference is the strength of their baked-in traits, and even then only by a few percentage points, iirc.
For instance, a "Common" Human officer will have the leadeship trait, and will give something like +2.5% hull regen (or is it crew recovery?). A "Very Rare" Human officer will also have leadership, but will offer 5% bonus. Rares and VRs may also have additional traits, as well.
Also, Very Rares that you pick up will be more likely to have T4 skills that cannot be trained from the Boff trainer, and you can use the new boff to train one of your current officers in a skill you don't have access to.
Other than that, it seems that things like HP, attack strength, and skill ability (both ground and space) are all exactly the same.
Greens cannot start with some of the desired skills and will need more training. Blues and purples overlap, they can both get everything but a purple has a chance to have "more" (2 superior traits instead of one, for example). For this reason a GOOD blue is better than a BAD purple. But the best officers WILL be purple and have multiple superior traits.

Any Boff of any rarity can learn any skill, but those traits are a different story.

they missed pirate as a space trait at the top but all in all a good summary, if a bit fed-leaning.
