Lobi battlecruiser or Hirogen Hunter?

Hey everyone, I need some new ship advice

I'm coming up on 800 lobi and want to buy a ship to either use. From the options available I can go with one of the Lobi cruisers - I'm leaning towards a Monbosh but the Hirogen Apex, Voth Bastion and Tal Shiar ship make strong cases for themselves.

OR I could buy a ship from the lobi store, sell it, and combine it with my EC savings and buy a Hirogen Hunter, which folks tell me is crazier than the Jem'Hadar bug.

My current rare ships lineup includes a Sci Vesta, Mobius temporal ship (with the temporal warfare set), Risian Corvette, both Breen ships, a Steamrunner, and a Fleet Avenger.

Are all of the above better or will provide too similar an experience to a Hunter or the Lobi cruisers? If that's the case I could just spend the lobi on the special sets (which I'd love recommendations for, also).

Thanks for any advice, guys!

I would go with whatever looks cooler to you and what feels right, they all have their own advantages and disadvantages.

You do not seem to have a full on cruiser, so maybe go for one of those, unless you hate turning like a slug

I have a Fleet Avenger, though. And IIRC all the Lobi cruiser ships are classed as Battlecruisers (or flight-deck cruiser for the Voth ship). Would that suffice?

Your current ship selection is pretty good and cover quite a bit of different playstyles.

Your Avenger will provide a similar play experience to the Monbosh. The Monbosh is pretty much a copy & paste of KDF Fleet Vor'Cha, so if you've played that, you've already played the Monbosh (which doesn't have cloak). Matter of fact, your Avenger already provides the quintessential "Battlecruiser" experience, i.e. replicates the gameplay of any Cruiser with LtCdr TAC and Cmdr ENG.

The Hirogen Hunter has a very interesting BOFF layout, though I just hate the appearance of all Hirogen ships. The closest thing you have to the Hirogen Hunter is your Temporal Destroyer, but the Hirogen one has turn rate 17 vs 15 of the Temporal ship. They both can't quite replicate the BOFF & Console layout of each other. But looking at the Hirogen BOFF setup, my creativity gears are spinning high looking at it.

The Hirogen battlecruiser is NOT a turning battlecruiser (it has a turn rate of 6) and thus plays more like a normal cruiser than a battlecruiser that has a Lt comm tac slot despite its name, and a flight-deck cruiser is a cruiser with a hangar at the cost of the two most useful cruiser commands. To believe the Avenger plays at all like a normal cruiser is incorrect, it is a VERY different beast.

as i said before, since you do not have a normal cruiser and if you want something different go for one of those cruisers.

really though, go with what you think looks coolest.

Time for an amazing update, guys :D

On a whim I decided to purchase a master key and opened a hirogen box that landed in my lap while doing my dyson daily, and lo, a Hirogen Hunter Escort!

I haven't been this lucky since I got a Tuffli a couple of years ago. now the real question: Use or sell? :D

USE IT, IF you are THAT lucky, it must be a sign from the great material continuum.

I think the gods are agreeing. Even if I sold the Hunter on the exchange (at 64 mil it's surprisingly cheap for something people are calling a Bug beater), I'd only have enough EC to buy a Bastion (though technically I'd have the lobi and could grab it that way...)

Anyway, I'm in no hurry, so maybe I'll sit on it while I decide if I should give it to a Tac alt I'm making :D

I dont thin the Apex is that bad, I do think the Hunter is that good, personally I would go with the Hunter myself.

As luck would have it, a Hunter just dropped into my lap from a lockbox! I'll sit on it until I decide what to do, but now I can definitely feel free to choose a lobi ship :D

Season 9 and a new lockbox is coming soon. I'd wait till the new ships are out. Then, depending on prices, you buy the 800 lobi one, sell on exchange when the price is high and buy the older lobi ship off the exchange and make some EC on top of it. Or use the newer one which will probably be better due to power creep.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

Good idea, though I do hope the new box comes soon. I'm an impatient man and might make some kind of rash decision...like buying a ground weapon :P

That said, if the rumors are true that the next box is Undine themed and contains Undine ships...I don't really want those... :(

True, but that's where Option 2 comes in.;)

if you have not opened or sold it i saw a brilliant idea in another thread. put it in your inventory and cross the toon to tribble. that way you can test drive it a while and decide if you want it or sell it

and think about the JHDC.. it's incredibly fun to fly

Do what I did: Configure the Hunter with beams and fly it like a *really* fast cruiser. :)

Apex is easily the worst of the LtC Tac Cruisers. The layout isn't anything we haven't seen before. The weapon layout is the generic 4/4. The turn rate is atrocious and in combination with the weapon layout, pretty much rules out cannons as a serious option. There are simply better options in factional flavor without the need to turn to weirdo alien ships.

Ooh, good advice. I'll do that, since I planned to visit tribble anyway :D

Nice idea, though I've recently fallen in love with the sound effect of the destabilized tetryons, so I may keep a cannon loadout handy for funsies :)

I've got no problem with "weirdo alien ships", but upon further examination I'm beginning to conclude that the Apex isn't for me. If anything I might go with the Monbosh eventually :)

Wait for the Undine lockbox. Should be out soon. At least that is what I think the next box will be. Unless you are dead set on spending lobo now.
