Currently, I am rebuilding my Kar'fi (and will get Fleet stuff as soon as I clear the fleet's requirement), but until then, I am going to rely more on rep sets and dil pets
Currently, I am using the following build:

Of course, I am planning to add some dyson stuff. So I am thinking of replacing the dbb with the Experimental Proton Weapon. However, should I also replace the polaron tac console and the borg torp with the other two of protonic arsenal set?
Also, aside from Elite frigates, are there better pets then the elite scorpions? They blows up quite often. (eg: should I get the tholian pet)?
Here's the issue I have right now:
-My elite scorpion get blown up fast
-I get blown up in elite Pve more than before for some reason. Especially Mirror Elite
-Don't feel like I am doing a lot of damages
-Kerrat I am the one that got killed easily.

My immediate questions
1 How big are you on the Borg shield? Some people love the proc and tractor beam, others hate the low capacity. It looks like you're trying to compensate for the capacity, but eating all your consoles in the process.
2 Dual polarize hulls?
3 How important is the torpedo to you, especially since they fixed/nerfed it?
4 How often do you use the Phase Shift Generator?
My playstyle involve getting within 5km, and then launch attack as much as possible. However, it will always be at minimal of quarter impulse. I love my pets, but so far, my shield repairing shuttles does not do enough in Kerrat. My priority is staying alive, however. Cycle through gravity well III and holo ships, and use photonic capacitor and sci abilities to increase its appearance.
Due to the nature of PUG, I will assume that playing as a group is same as playing by myself.
I tried the solandine 3 piece (from the newest FE), and I don't like the need for active. With Borg Shield, though it's low, I recover fast, and until recently I found it better than my old JemHedar XI shield.
However, i am more than willing to move to a different set, such as honor guard or dyson, if it's better for my playstyle.
If torpedo help me kill, good. If not, forget it.
I also suppose that, if it's good for Kerrat, it will be sufficient for elite PUG PvE.
Fighter pets die all the time. Even elites. Frigate pets stay alive. Both can be effective, but if you get tired of spamming pets, use frigates.
The ship is a slow moving tactical science ship. Keeping it alive means having awesome gear or using your science to maintain shields --- offensive sci builds require the gear. It just barely has enough engineering to provide a hull heal and power to shields. Thankfully its gimmick console can keep it alive until you can manage without it after gearing up. Use it until then. Mirror elite is rough -- it basically turns into a solo vs the horde in many groups, so either you need a good fleet premade group or you need to be able to solo 2 typhoons.
The ship is capable of doing fine damage. It should be relatively easy to make a glass cannon out of it, actually -- if you can't dish out damage, I have to ask why?? With a set of fleet AP weapons and the ob core set, green XI tac consoles, it will hold its own with an average escort (factor in the pet damage too...). The only "bought for dil" items I have are my fleet weapons --- and that is a huge help, but you should be able to do well with whatever you choose.
The only weapon choice I will recommend for you is the gravity well torp from dyson. Assuming you like science, and picked this ship to use science.... its a natural pick. I would use 3 DBB and this torp up front.
Here's something for you. I get 46k+ dps with this in ISE.
Pretty nice. What DOffs are you running? I'm guessing at least Conn Officers to take Tac Team to global and give a nice boost to APB with the extra Attack Patterns Buff those DOffs give when hitting Tac Team.
Yeah, Kar'fi is short a tac slot for my preferences, yet also can't fit a2b. Still pretty good as far as carriers go.;)
Thanks,
Gen
I'm sure your DPS is great, but as Kahless said, "a petaQ with high system mastery is still a petaQ." (Well, he should have said it...!)

The low quality pets are extremely cheap. Why not try a set?
I like the skul fighters. Their ramming attack can do major crits and they are OK in general. While they *can* once in a while produce a big hit, I would not say its worth it to change if you like what you have.
Ferjai seem to have an extra long delay to send out a pair (and I do have solid aux power, just over 100), but they do reasonable dps while staying alive. I only have the basic set but this is what I use on mine.
S'Kul die a lot due to their Ramming Speed being their kinetic attack, which is penalized with the new 'rank' system for hangar pets. Dead pets earn no stars.
Fer'jai frigates are nice against anything that puts out AoEs that would kill off smaller pets, their Tricobalts are pretty nice with high yields, Advanced and higher have Tric mines too. Thanks to fighting the Voth enough times, I just run two hangars of Fer'jai.
Like noroblad said, you can get a decent feel for them with just the EC versions.
Elite Fer'jas are the reason I slotted 2 grav wells on a beam array faw boat. The heavy tricobalt from hyIII creates a subspace rift that covers the well and kills everything it's in. The massive spike is good for pvp too.
