It isn't outside of Cryptic's toolbox to implement a "universal" console slot.
We already have "universal" boff seats, and even boff seats that evolve/devolve depending on which Tactical mode you are in. And time and time again, universal boff seats prove their worth in almost every lockbox ship and Fleet ship that has them.
So thus, I ask Cryptic: Is a "universal" console slot (a console slot that Tac/Eng/Sci consoles can go into) on the Big List of Things We Should Add?

I think that'd be useful but it might make some designs overpowered. Then again I'm still learning the game.
The Borg have it all wrong. Resistance is not futile. Resistance is electromotive force over current. Hasn't the Borg Queen ever heard of Ohm's frickin' Law?

I wouldn't really mind this, actually.
Primary ship: U.S.S. Lacus Clyne, Dyson Science Destroyer/U.S.S. Fausticorn, Multi-Mission Reconnaissance Explorer
Secondary ship: U.S.S. Rainbow Dash, Odyssey Tactical Cruiser/I.S.S. Princess Cadance, Mirror Assault Cruiser
Tertiary ship: I.S.S. Freedom Gundam, Mirror Deep Space Science Vessel My YouTube Channel
I don't think tactical, science, and engineering consoles need it, the current system for them is fine, with the slot numbers based on the type and tier of ship. What is really needed is slots for those universal consoles, I would say 3 slots per ship that can only be used for those consoles. If anything changing them from universal to something else that's just for those slots.
While making c shop ship bundles more appealing since it would mean you could keep your special abilities which you paid for while not being forced to give up tactical, engineering, and science consoles, it would benefit in game ships as well since a lot of universal consoles can be equipped on any ship.
Would that hurt the balance in the game? no, for one, there has never been much balance anyway and if you'd rather use one of the ships available in game you could still put some universal consoles on them if you want to.
I don't think it needs a universal slot for any console.
But I would agree to either 1 or 2 universal slots for universal consoles similar to device slots, that way you wouldn't have to sacrifice as much if you want to run a 3 piece set.
Wtf u talking about.. more opportunities for more dpsing and power creep no, for god sake..
Due to the diminishing returns of tactical consoles, it wouldn't provide as effective a bonus to justify offsetting the engineering/science slots you would need to counter attacks.
Besides, it's far from a complete proposal, it's just a suggestion.

Yes, because what this game needs now are ships with 6 TAC Consoles
I'm with you, I mean it never crossed my mind that they could just take ships with 5 tactical consoles already and convert one of them to a universal. :P

I would even be okay with grinding for them.
