In a competent pick up group for MIE, we finished T5 SB Defense with over 5 minutes to spare, and ended up just sitting around, until the 2 minute mark where a single rift spawned, we closed it in about 10 seconds, and yeah, just a very boring, poorly designed encounter.

We see that because of the great propensity for people to cry on the forums that 'only damage in this game matters,' you are throwing a bone to the cruisers and science ships getting channeling bonuses etc., this isn't a terrible idea. (However, with the caveat, Sci ships and cruisers are both doing amazing damage, with many ships pulling over 50k dps in ISE)

It is a terrible idea, however, to gate your content with a timer, whereupon competent players are punished by boredom going through your arbitrarily gated content. Make the encounter *and all encounters you design in the future* adaptable.

This is easily accomplished, for a roadmap of how to accomplish this, just take a look at ISE, CSE, KSE, HSE (although, minus the cutscenes in HSE).

As a last comment, the rise and proliferation of these Torpedo Spreads that HSE and the MIE Kirk does, +60,000 damage in a one-shot is a little stupid, I don't think I'm the only person to have ever noted it. Even when you see it coming and hit Brace-For-Impact, and having full shields, all you do is waste that cooldown, and you die anyway. Unless you have 3-4 Science Captains who can chain subnuke it, it will pretty much 1-shot you. A bad design is bad, don't copy and paste bad designs from other encounters onto new encounters, thank you :)
