The Rise of the Red Eclipse.

Synopsis: In the recent years, strong anti-Federation sentiment has begun to sweep through the colonies and allied systems, adding tensions to bordering settlements along the DMZ and increased friction between the Federation, Klingon and Romulan powers. With the hope of trying to once again bring peace between the Klingons and the Federation, Vice Admiral Jameson has completed a well-hidden neutral station and has invited dignitaries from the Klingon and Romulan Empires, Cardassia, the Orion Syndicate, the Ferengi Alliance and a new addition to the Federation, a Celestisan Consulate. Only the Remans declined the invitation, but they have asked for a proxy to stand in their place instead. This is where YOU come in.

Everything seems to be going well (as well as ambassadorial negations go) until the terrorist organization called The Red Eclipse makes an unexpected visit. Now you have to not only locate and rescue the dignitaries but stop an all-out war driven by a madman with a nefarious plot hell-bent on destroying the Federation at all costs.

Starfleet 35+

Story-driven, dialogue heavy with multiple dialogue options & outcomes, challenging space and ground combat and... trivia!

I am happy to exchange starfleet reviews... just leave your misison title and @ handle and I will try respond to every review posted in good time.

Cheers!

    Hi there.
Look out for a review shortly by Johnny Snowball. Soon as I get a minute to play STO.
Then, please, if you like, I have my 1st mission lost in the abyss of review stage hell too.

    TITLE: Shore Leave Under Siege

I noticed one or two issues with SPG and maps - namely the TOS lift on the Cardiassian map didn't look right, but aside from that the maps were good. Story was cool, though the initial set up didn't quite make sense by the end. It also seems a bit of a trope now in the foundry to have someone giving a huge revelation about how evil the Federation is.

Sorry, that came off a bit short. End of the day and all.

My query more was, ***SPOILERS*** why bother to set up the conference to kidnap a bunch of low level diplomats at all? It seemed a bit contrived. He didn't really gain anything out of the situation that couldn't have been done through better, alternative, means. It was well put together and all, but I just can't shake it. I did like what you did with the borg elements behind the windows on the Cardassian map though, that was a cool idea.

I am genuinely surprised you could understand my post with the typos... kudos to you!

IE7 and Firefox - same exact issue on both browsers, both at home and at work. Cleared the cache, no change.

What is odd is that the date is frozen on March 9... was there an update or something around then?

Lol – no worries. I appreciate any feedback, short or other.

As for your question re: the station map… I guess I wanted to create a seemingly impenetrable fortress... a place of complete safety and sanctuary for these people to meet then shatter it with the worst possible scenario: someone with hostile intent not only manages to break in, but does so in such an effectual manner as to catch everyone unawares. The kidnapping of the delegates had to happen simultaneously as I did not want to have the player running around looking for one after the other… those NPCs of no importance were left behind, as you saw upon playing through the maps.

When you say ‘better or alternative means’ what do you mean, exactly? I could not think of a more efficient means to attempt to capture 9 delegates other than to take advantage of them all being located in a single place at one time other than a newly-built, undermanned station behind a field of sensor and communications-disrupting radiation…. I am not trying to be argumentative or obstinate… I am genuinely interested in what alternatives you may have considered. =)

Glad you liked the Borg placement… I had all that empty space and no way of getting the player in there without a map transition so I kind of ‘winged it’ LOL

Sounds good. I'm planning on checking it out tomorrow and leaving a review. If you have time, I'd like some feedback on my mission: "Requiem for a Dream (1/2)" @11001001_v2.0

I was more meaning, alternative to capturing those delegates. He expended a lot of resources to capture a group of minor members of various diplomatic corps with no real gain at the end of it. Now if I was an underground crime lord with the ability to brainwash people, I wouldn't make a very public kidnapping of a few diplomats. I'd individually infect, through subtle means, an increasing number of mid-ranking politicians (and other powerful figures depending on the power bloc in question) in order to gain voices inside the legislative and executive branches of the quadrant's major powers. Think the old death by Russian umbrella trick - only this time it's nanoprobes that bring you under the control of a secret organisation. Starfleet Admirals, Romulan Senators, High Council Members, Ferengi CEOs, Reman resistance leaders - all behind the scenes working towards the aims of the Red Eclipse, manipulating galactic events, without its existence ever becoming public. Now I'm not saying it would make a better mission, but I think when there may be better ways than the one presented, some explaining needs to be made by the villain of the piece as to why this course was chosen.

    </end essay>

Sorry, but I often think about taking over the galaxy and don't like it when villains are doing a bad job at it, I make these points equally with hollywood movies.

I won’t argue with you over creative vision because I tend to share the same outlook as you when dealing with movies, etc, and your points make perfect sense. I may not be the best writer out there but I do put a considerable amount of thought into planning the story and trying to keep the ‘bigger picture’ in mind.

I will say, however, that I did try to avoid going that route. It may seem to make little sense at this point but suffice it to say, I have plans for the story involving the “why”s behind questions such as yours. Yes, it would have made much more sense to stage a kidnapping of an individual, program them and them stage a rescue without ever exposing yourself to your intended targets. Unless you have an ulterior motive which is benefited from the awareness of your presence and intention.

*** SPOILERS – do not read if you intend to play the mission ***

Remember what Aeron asked you in sublevel 5C. He offered you one chance to ask a question…the questions you were offered were not chosen at random and if you managed to choose the correct one you gained a hint wrapped in a riddle. However, if you asked the wrong question, I placed hints in other areas throughout the mission… when you meet up with the Red Eclipse himself and challenge him that you know about the Borg tech… he knows. It was his intent that you discover this technology but not to gain the physical technology itself. The ship you were chasing drops out of warp and just sits… why? There are a few questions that should get the player thinking.

And THAT was my intent. The fact that this aspect bugs you means you are thinking about it and, therefore, the mission was a success!

In the second instalment I’ll make some things more clear – specifically discussing why the Eclipse was so open in their attacks… and raise even more questions, but in order to find the answers, the player will be forced with some tough choices and severe sacrifices….

    Dum dum DUUUUMMM! LOL

Seriously though, thanks for your feedback. Positive, negative, neutral, it’s all appreciated. =)
