Fleet vs Rep Gear

Which is better? Are there situations where one is better than the other? I have a variety of chars with differing careers, ships, and roles. There's so much stuff in each rep and the fleet holdings, that I don't know which to pick. I'm willing to buy multiple sets, now that we have the loadout system. I just don't know what to get. In base stats, it seems that fleet gear is better all around, but that doesn't account for procs and set bonuses. I've been trying to find threads with comparisons (ex. Fleet vs Dyson for Dyson ground combat, 2 Borg MACO Shield vs 3 Fleet for Omega space combat, etc.). Concise input is appreciated, as I'm not the type of person to get into testing and parsing.

Although it goes against the grain at times, that's my point of view generally speaking. It depends. There will be situations where one is better than the other. So it gets into the various builds a person has and which situations they expect to find themselves in most...which could potentially lead to selecting an item that is not as good but good enough in another situation, because they do not frequent that situation as much as they do another.

I find diffrent ships are good with diffrent gear :)

my dyson science destroyer makes great use of the dyson set.
my t'varo makes good use of adapted maco.
and my scimitar uses a mix of borg and fleet stuff.

There are indeed lots of sets and single items to choose from. And yes, it usually depends on your playstyle and your career. For instance, I can use the solonae dyson set from step between stars on my galaxy and get the metaphasic shield bonus along with some good power boosts, or I can get a little more tanky and combine sets and fleets items. For instance, the adapted maco set will give you a powerful stealth ability, but if you don't really use it, you can swap the deflector for a fleet positron deflector, and boost the maco shield even further while getting the 2 piece bonus ta tidal readiness. It a depends on you.
