Do the order which you place weapons of a particular type in your weapon slots have any bearing on which hard points they visually use?
Or are those hard points pretty much determined by the weapon type?
For example I can see that DUAL phasers use certain hard points, compared to phaser banks.
For example if I put dual plasmas beams, in my first forward slot, and dual disrupters beams in my second will it make any difference on the model, where they fire from?
The hardpoints are only for visuals, to make the ships look more intimidating. For example, my Mobius is equipped with Dual Heavy Cannons in fore, and Turrets in aft. When I fire at something, the bolts come from the centre of my ship. The hardpoints make no difference whatsoever.

Weapon firing position depends on weapon type.
Dual Heavy Cannons and Dual Beam Banks fire from the same location; Dual Cannons fire from their own location; Turrets, Single Cannons, and the KCB fire from the same locations; fore and aft Beam Arrays along with the Proton Weapon fire from different locations along the phaser strips (most ships have visible phaser strips on the model); and there's one projectile launcher fore and aft.
There's usually eight active phaser strip locations, one for each corner (dorsal/ventral, port/starboard, fore/aft), and fore beams always fire from fore strips and likewise for aft beams and strips.
Turrets usually seem to have one fore and aft hardpoint on the dorsal and ventral surfaces, and the aft weapons seem to prefer the aft hardpoints if they are in line of sight of the target, otherwise they'll join the fore weapons on those hardpoints.
Firing order appears to dictate which position along the phaser strips that beams will fire, and obviously dictates the order in which the cannon pellets will fly out of the appropriate hardpoint.
Additionally, every ship that can load dual cannons has four dual cannon hardpoints. Only two are ever used, except when quad cannons are equipped in which case the secondary hardpoints are used.
