So I love my assault cruiser, really do, but I've been enjoying this in STFs lately for the burst it lays down. Tell me what ya think and offer improvements please. Regularly get 15k+ DPS

I've tanked gates in KASE for a bit but attrition has me lose out if I dont get some backup. Super squishy but puts out nice numbers.

Your build looks like more fun than cannons...
Its a lot more fun than cannons. The 90 degree arc on DBB and FAW means I dont need turn consoles really and can maneuver for better coverage with FAW. Its less single target burst though.
As far as the proton console: that is really for the 2pc bonus "Arsenal Synergy". Gives +3% critical hit, 22.9% photon projectile dmg (I dont use this), and gives the experimental proton weapon the ability to run FAW. I used to run a fleet AP turret instead of the experimental proton weapon (and a stealth console in place of the proton console) and had no cannon abilities to boost it. Even without the tac consoles boosting its damage, the experimental proton weapon does more damage when its firing than the turret did. Sure, it doesnt hit the forward arc like the turret but I gain 8 weapons power for the frontal weapons towards overcapping, and 3 critical hit, which makes it a wash really.
The experimental proton weapon gives a nice bonus when I have to make a turn though to have it kick in, and during FAW its a nice visual offset to the red AP beams when I see pretty blue going beams coming out of my boat: it lets me know something is behind me or I need to reposition.

Just to clarify, the proton weapons are not buffed by AP consoles.
Not that they need it since its straight hull damage. My raptor gets 10-15K crits with PB and 8-10K crits with the experimental proton when it occassionally BOL.
