Questions About ARC

Gentlemen:

Since you are or will shortly be forcing us to use your ARC software or Steam in order to access your games, I would like to know more about ARC itself.

I only play Star Trek Online and have absolutely no interest in any other Perfect World Entertainment (hereinafter "PWE") game. Given that the only change in my game play since I started playing over four years ago is that I will be forced to use your new, unwanted, ARC software or Steam, I am curious as to how ARC makes things better for me.

I would appreciate it if you would explain to me in detail how the ARC browser and launcher will truly benefit me in a way that is substantially different than how I already use and play Star Trek Online - bearing in mind that I do not play any other PWE or Cryptic Studios game.

Beyond that, I am curious as to my privacy and what you're doing with the information ARC collects.

Exactly, and I mean exactly please, what data are you collecting through the browser and launcher?
  • Is ARC collecting data on other software that is installed on our computers?
  • Is ARC collecting data on the operating system we use?
  • Is ARC setting cookies on our computers?
  • Is ARC installing anything at all - including updates to itself - on our computers?
  • If ARC is installing anything at all on our computers, what is it installing, why is it installing it, and what does it do?
  • Is ARC collecting and providing data collected from our computers - of any kind - to third parties that results in monetary profit to any person or entity?
  • Is ARC collecting and providing data collected from our computers - of any kind - to third parties without monetary profit that results in benefit financial or otherwise to any person or entity?
  • Are we able to opt out of any and all data collection that may take place through the ARC browser or launcher?
  • Is PWE, its subsidiaries, affiliates, successors and/or assigns now or in the future able to earn financial profit from anything that the ARC browser and/or launcher collects?
  • Will the Steam launcher be providing any data to PWE or Cryptic Studios or any other third party that PWE, Cryptic Studios or any other individual or entiity will benefit from financially?

Given the information available in your Terms of Service and other documentation, use of PWE games subjects your customers to an automatic agreement to your terms and conditions. I started playing Star Trek Online in Beta, when the publisher was Atari. At that time, there was no ARC browser or launcher, and I have made purchases of items in-game for money over the years, prior to PWE's acquisition of Cryptic Studios and its assorted titles.

You are now changing the agreements I made at that time and up to this point by requiring use of your ARC software.

As such, since we are being given the option of using your unwanted ARC browser and launcher in order to play the game in which we have paid for in-game items, are you prepared to reimburse us for those purchases in the event that we decide not to subject ourselves to ARC if it turns out to be data mining for your profit?

Thank you for your prompt attention and detailed response to these questions.

Very truly yours,

Stelakh
