This game is a great game but when you are dealing with stuff as Star Trek, the main goal is an impossible one if you lack the resources to be able to obtained.
In Star Trek we need a main quest line that never ends and to which the devs. could apply the side line quests.
A main quest line based on constantly exploring discovering new species and new planets and new civilizations, planets that could be inhabited or planets just waiting to be colonized or terraform or transformed by an alliance of all aliens races in the universe.
So far what we have now in this game, like ships, races, technologies, weapons, even crafting build the base to be used to launch long term exploration missions, like going from this galaxy to another explore some worlds, create and build star bases, colonize planets, build mines, spacedocks, etc etc.
I don't think Cryptic has the resources in man power to keep a main quest line based on pure exploration, although it could be a very easy way to create new worlds. A game like Galactic Civilization uses certain of those things in a closed map, but we need the same principles in an open Universe, maybe a space race between Federation and Klingons to see who can discover more planets and can build more colonies etc etc
spoken like a fed. Hopefully the kdf can beat some new species into submission at least? :P
Very old games randomly generated content making some gigantic worlds (universes, whatever). This concept has been lost in the race for shinier graphics though. It is not hard to do: even 20 or so "types", pick 3 to make a random mission, gives over 1000 combinations.
The cheezy explore the nebulae missions are a good start. There are only like 4 mission types though, and it only really picks 1 task and then random planet/species graphics. Expansion of that would be awesome.
Remember that's the only question the devs ask about any idea.
If they can't sell new content to you for real world money then they will NEVER make it. If you flesh out your idea with "and it costs x amount of Zen in order to continue/start/take part" then your idea might be given some consideration.
If you make it a "space race" between the 2 factions and make spending money or time (mostly money) part of the game, then I genuinely believe you might be onto a winner

true, im always hovering around 0 ec most of the time anyways, however when you know how to make something from nothing everyday, you realize that it maybe nothing, however no matter how small its not entirely impossible to find your way around this issue.

i dont think so, it would take a lot of effort for the devs to try it and significant modification to the game engine to try. however in another sense there is a never ending plot until its completed by cryptic one day, the iconian plot.

another exploration revamp thread, i doubt its high on PWE's "things to do" list.

turn the game into second life? no way, all those resources would be wasted anyways, the main appeal is the fighting and the content revolving around that considering the iconian plot. i doubt its gonna really go beyond that need for instant gratification.

it already has such a thinig in place, however it has not been upgraded since f2p, if it got some TLC, it could be useful again. but if your upgrading the exploration sectors and missions, then PVP will have to go with it as that is just as prehistoric.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
The PVP part could be included into the Fed vs KDF path to take over certain sectors of the Universe with certain resources that could be use to develop better PVP skills, techniques, weapons etc and this could bring a big boost to the PVP world.
What this games needs most, is a ground up restart/revamp, with a better developer. Barring that, a good, old fashioned, soapy, TRIBBLE, with a power washer.
ya think! :P. ive been saying that for years and no one noticed. i never liked season 4, the crossfire upgrade, still dont like it and never will.

Is there some way they could make a trading card style exploration like they do with doffing. Instead of the doff portrait you would see a thumbnail of a planet or star.
They could give these out as mission rewards or a daily like the lore quiz where you get 2409 chips and they could sell bundles of them for people that wanted more.
You would need to affix some basic stats to the card like planet/star type, a few 1-100 random generated resource ratings, yes/no on indigenous species etc, but we wouldn't have those details until we consumed the card on our bridge and traveled there.
So like bridge officer slots, we would have a number of system slots we could visit/revisit with a double click or a transwarp. We could dismiss and replace, or trade with other players.
It's all pointless though if we're not able to revisit, build and customize, and have things like PvE encounters and immigration.
It would be the perfect use of our BO's when and if we could promote them to Captains.
So... these are things they could monetize:
System cards that provide the coordinates.
Slots for systems we can revisit.
A plethora of ground components we could order from traders to make buildings, equipment, etc. Or hey, revamp crafting to this end. I would actually consider inputting dilithium if the object of crating was to make buildings and machines.
If they wanted to keep the starbase/holding system relevant, they could tie the number of systems you have available to your fleet's players, or to your entire fleet to be shared if individual claims would be too numerous to handle, into the holding levels. Also, the starbase would be a good staging spot where we would purchase the modules needed to colonize.
That is what I would be trying to work towards first if I were EP of this game, followed by creating PvP red alerts in sector space. If neither were possible, I'd resign and let them go back to lock box ships
The game is missing players as intelligent, rational, and reasonable as those seen in the Star Trek movies and TV shows.
Unfortunately, that also is not possible.
What? You want people to be intelligent, rational, and reasonable enough to be crawling around on the floor searching for sqeaks and being unable to identify cr*p even with the help of a tricorder?
The scary thing is that in some cases that would be a step up.

that would be opposite of what f2p is about, besides LOR was an expansion and that has been released without any charge.
