Fix the Big Dig queue!

walshicuswalshicus Member Posts: 1,314 Arc User
So The Big Dig indicates it's an event for 12 to 20 players, but it never starts with 12 players in the queue. It starts with 14 players.

More than this, it never actually starts the match until about 15 players have accepted the mission start.

This leads to frustration as players continuously loop through the queue starting, closing due to lack of players, starting again...

Given the amount of power creep over the years, this is not a mission that requires 20 people any more. We either need the queue logic to be fixed so that smaller groups can start an instance, or else we need the mission revamped into a 10 man event so that smaller groups can still play.

Plus, it would be nice if the mission was tuned so that we fought against Tal Shiar and Elachi or Hirogen rather than Remans.

A lot of fleet actions need to be re-made.

True. But Big Dig is probably the most popular ground Fleet Action.

No, I think it's far, far behind mine trap. Like, "still passing Vulcan in Sirius sector while Mine Trap is having a drink at Quarks" far behind.

I think the queue system itself needs an overhaul. Look at Breaking the Planet -- next to no one does it because the que never comes up. I haven't actually done it since sometime before season 7. Tried numerous times.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.

    Breaking the Planet is...broken.

I had actually started a thread on this same topic last year after they had changed the queue system. I don't know exactly when they did it, but it was previously the case that any PvE queue could start as long as the minimum threshold was crossed, even if not enough people accepted invitations to still be at the minimum when the round actually began. I'm not sure why they even implemented the current system at all, as it does nothing but waste everyone's time. The only possible issue it could have addressed was perhaps the difficulty of getting the daily objectives done if you joined a late round, but even that wasn't as bad as waiting through half a dozen or more failed starts.

The KDF has it especially bad for their lone fleet action daily that actually has any possibility of starting. For some reason their PvE queue has two listings for Fed Minefield, and it seems that not everyone is observant enough to join both, as I'll often the count go up for just one or the other. It's completely absurd that we can't even start a 5 player event without going through so many failed starts.

Huh, weird. I never play Mine Trap. Too long for too little reward.

It used to be the one of the best missions for Rommy marks, but since people hardly play that stuff anymore...

This is happening a lot this morning...

I'd seriously love to take a gander at Cryptic's analytics for STO; I just want to see two numbers:

    1) How many attempts are made to start a Big Dig queue instance
    2) How many attempts are successful at starting a Big Dig queue instance

Yes? It's an incredibly quick source of both Dilithium and Fleet Marks - 1,600 Dilithium and 50 Marks when you run the Daily

I want a vote to kick option to kick the leech players who dont look at the chat window, and don't respond to pm. They do their own thing, they don't even have an instinct to follow the group and I don't see why the team needs to drag them along!

Ground stf's need to be improved a lot anyway.

    * For those without mark rewards, award a mark box
    * big dig/mine trap/breaking the planet: 100 marks of choice for completing it.
    * Improve the EC reward of all ground drops:
    -Armour = 40.000-60.000 ec a piece
    -shields = 22.000-30.000 ec a piece
    -weapons = 10.000-20.000 ec a piece
    * increase ground commodities drops and amount. 10+ shield chargers, batteries and stuff per loot drop. 20-50 trade commodities per time they drop.

    sig

I am new to STO, I have been trying to play Breaking the Planet since almost mid-February. I queue up every time I play, a few times per day. Never was able to play that mission. I stopped queuing it up on a daily early this month, and have since stopped bothering.

I definitely had more success with The Big Dig, but since probably mid last week I have not been able to get into that mission 'cause apparently no one is playing it. I queue up a few times a day as well. I don't queue up / cancel queue up again. It typically just drops from my queue.

Big Dig is annoying depending on whether people stick with you or not to do the daily objectives. Enemy NPC's respawn like crazy for some reason in that one. At least if you have to clear a swarm in Gorn or Scout Force to do daily objectives they stay dead. And are more manageable.

I wouldn't mind it so much if the Daily order wasn't Dig, Dig, Dig, Gorn, Dig, Scout Force, Dig, Dig, Dig and so forth.

Scout Force is another problem child... I stopped bothering...

The last time I played it, I was surprised it actually started 'cuz I queued it up on a whim. However, it kinda went downhill from there. I was happy enough that the mission started, but there was no one else in that mission. I was all by myself.

I waited about a minute thinking there were a server issue prevent everyone from starting at the same time. Nothing... Got bored waiting so I decided to play the mission. No one ever popped in. I completed the mission all by myself destroying all 50 - 60 enemy ships and the asteroid bases. I can't remember if there was a 2nd wave of ships.

I got a decent amount of dropped loot. I used the replicator to sell the less valuable stuff when my inventory was full. I looked that the clock after finishing that mission... apparently I was grinding away at for about 2 hours.
