I need help chooseing the best options for my hanger. I do NOT do PvP, only PvE and STF. My fleet has everything maxed so I can get the good fleet gear.
It seems I am in the minorty about being excited about the Dread update. I enjoy flying it and I have always been more of a tank/crusier play style so I've never been bothered by trying to max out my DPS. Now that it is getting a hanger, I need to find out what will be the best option for me. From what I have read it seems everyone is raging about yellowstones, but I still like the look and though of fighters.
I would like people thoughts on what would be best. I am not looking for "it's best because I say so" but reasons why they are good.
This thread is not about what carrier is best, so stay away from the dread hate. Just focus on the hanger pet topic please.
1. Don't forget that you should choose fighters that have a different weapon type than your ship. So that way you can increase your chances of Proc'ing with different weapon types.
For example, my Jem'Hadar Dreadnought Carrier has Advanced Jem'Hadar fighters (they use Polaron and they suck)as one of my pets. My other pet is are advanced Delta Flyers (because I don't have the JHAS, but that's for another conversation). The delta flyers use Phasers. And my ship has Antiproton. So when we attack one target, that target is being hit by Phaser, Polaron and Antiproton.
2. Fighters have paper thin hulls. They are blown up easily. Because of that, don't expect them to level up quickly.
3. Shuttles and Frigates are much struder than fighters. They level up to 5 stars because of their strong hull.
4. Don't ignore your pets. If you want to increase your DPS, heal them. I've seen countless carrier pilots ignore their pets. I heal their pets more than they do. They ignore the fact that a 5 star rating increases damage dealt by 10% or so (Here's the link to read yourself).
5. Get the BOFF (Bridge Officer) that'll increase your damage in a certain mode of carrier commands. I think their called Flight deck officers on the exchange (I could be wrong )
That's all I have for now. The rest is up to you.
One day Cryptic will be free from their Perfect World overlord. Until that day comes, they will continue to pamper the whales of this game, and ignore everyone that isn't a whale.
Elite Swarmers:-
+ Deals a lot of damage for a pet and will actually get an NPC's shield facing down on it's own. Due to using beams, the target is always in it's firing arc.
+ Transphasics mean it'll do a lot of bleedthrough damage on shields.
+ Fast hanger recharge times.
- Dies easily to pretty much anything.
Yellowstones:-
+ Great crowd control pets with chroniton torps (slows target), tractor beam 3 and something akin to warp plasma.
+ Decent health for an NPC pet so won't die in seconds should an npc shoot at it. Also more likely to survive a npcs warp core breach.
- Not really offensive on their own.
- Longer respawn than swarmers.
If you're going the way of DHC's for the Gal-X, I'd seriously suggest the yellowstones. Otherwise elite swarmers.
I have heard good things about elite scorpion fighters, because of the by plasmas. I useddeltas, the normal ones on my fleet hec, and they did great.the tach beam drains shields
Got all elite pets and, would recommend swarmers just keep your eye on them, scorpions tough little buggers its these two pets I use the most, just remember to take care of your pets an they will help you no end.
I do not have elite swarmers yet. I spent all my FC, and I wasn't impressed with the advanced ones on my freebie Obelisk.
Elite Scorpions are the best DPS out of any available Federation pet. Their only downside is their huge damage can be negated with enough AE damage. In practice, PvE, this is rarely ever a problem, and they almost always win.
Elite Peregrines are solid. They have parsed out for me to be the next best choice if you are only going for damage. They are superior to Scorps under heavy AE (tho AE that heavy is rare outside of PvP) and have a pretty solid burst if deployed from docked status and they all CRF at once on their first attack pass (so they keep their guns on target for a decent amount of time before they start circling)
Elite Deltas rank next surpizingly, if you are only trying to kill things. Low DPS, but after Scorpions and Perigrines I find they have the lowest TTK and lowest mortality rate over all when sent against NPC ships alone. The multiple tachyon beams and xphasics really do tear things up. Until we can actually parse shield drains we have to guess at what is happening, but they really do surprize me.
Yellowstones are pure gold, but limited in use really. You aren't going to use them to CC reliably in PvE. They have a mind of their own. They are good at their job, but I'm not depending on them to stop probes or nanite spheres... too twitchy. Low DPS, but great at making battles easier. A godsend in PvP. You can't go wrong with them, but they will not impress you for damage.
I don't have elite type 10's, but I'm currious about them. Beams and photons... that might end up being some solid, if not bursty, DPS. What they need rather then polarize is hazard emitters, tho, so they can use it on others.... *THAT* would make me buy them in an instant.
Edit: I had huge hopes for elite widows, but they parse really low for me. Something to be said for their spam clearing potential, tho. I'm not sure why the DPS is low, maybe its me, maybe its them trying to figure out if they want to use the DBB or the rear beam... and then sit and twitch back and forth trying to hit them with both.
I once again match my character. Behold the power of PINK!
My fed sci has the vesta ship n yellowstones work well with grav well n other sci powers my eng has the jhec n uses elite scorpions from the Rom rep. There are probly the highest dps pets in the game but die really easy.
