Aquarius Destroyer revisited (a proposal)

For those like myself that like immersion and want to occasionally switch my tactical captin from his odyssey to an escort/destroyer, the aquarius is the ideal one. However, as we all know, it is incredibly underpowered, especially considering it is a T5 VA ship that is weker than the Heg'Ta BOP.

I realize no one wants Fed cloaking (me too) so why not play to another strength and make the Aquarius worth the investment?

First of all, it could definitely use another shielding or hull increase. Maybe not up to the level of a Defiant, but still enough to make it last a few shots.

I think to make it more unique and competitive, there is one sure way to do it:

Give it some serious impulse and thruster power.

Make it super-fast and very maneuverable, driving the defense rating up. innate would be better, but even a special console would do at this point. It is touted as Starfleet's fastest ship, so make it that way. This thing should almost have innate, continuous evasive maneuvers going on. Fast, nimble, and maybe even a little wild to fly, with a nerfed inertia rating so it skids a little.

This would give it the feel of a very experimental new design, in much the same way the Defiant was always having power trouble because it was an overamped experiment.

The ship should be hard to handle, but very effecitve in the hands of a practiced Captain.

This, I think would make up for the lack of hull, full universal BOFF layout, and battle cloak that the BoPs have. This could be the perfect Federation raider, if it could be made competitive.

I think the Aquarius should get a Flanking damage bonus. That would offset some of the lower stats.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

I agree, considering the new raider-level content that is said to be coming soon. I think a ship with great speed and maneuverability is custom-built for flanking.

Or at least the same +15 damage bonus that the other escorts have.

Maybe Destroyers will get a new mechanic like Raiders and Sci ships are getting.

Unlikely, but it would be nice.

    I vote yes on flanking
Turning it into a Federation Raider might make some KDF players mad, but... I kinda want to see that too, assuming Destroyers aren't getting a new mechanic yet.

    +1 vote.

It needs a lot more than just flanking. It needs 5th tac console and one more forward gun. Keep the paper thin shield and hull.

Whether it makes sense for destroyers in the sense of plural makes sense...I'm not sure.
The KDF ones and the Vet Destroyers seem to not be lacking anything...unlike the Aquarius.
As I recall a DEV said the Aquarius would not get the flanking bonus but something unique to her while flanking remains exclusive to raiders.
HMMM how about a second set of impulse engines?

My point exactly. No cloak, but MUCh harder to hit. There's more than one way to skin a Targ.

I too believe the Aquarius should get the breen raider treatment as a non cloaking, but still flanking raider. It's right in line with the KDF raiders of the same tier, stat-wise, so why tinker with it?

Making it a raider would also open the door for the possibility of it being made a frigate hangar pet. Just something to consider.

I will only accept it as a frigate hanger pet, if they remove the lockout of saucer sep and it on oddy. A long with fixing its ai, and giving the console pet the same stats etc as the elite version.

But yah the player version needs flanking... Its already got a bop like layout.

Flanking would make it just about balanced with Fedscorts. Maybe a hair UP, but only a hair.

It would still be the worst ever raider, but as an escort she gets a bad rap. More versatile then a patrol escort, for one less rear weapon slot. Faster, too.

Give her flanking and she starts to compete with the others, as well.

Edit: Keep your Aquarius frigates, give me TOS connie frigates! We can't play them, let us launch them!
I once again match my character. Behold the power of PINK!
