I don't play Guild Wars 2...

I don't even have the game. However, I get an email saying that my account in the game will be closed if I don't respond. Good thing Google caught this bad phish, though. Also checked to see if anyone else has accessed my email. Thankfully that hasn't happened... I use a 20+ character password whenever possible (I think the maximum limit PWE uses is too low) and for a moment I thought scammers were trying to use the phishing mail to gain access to legitamate email addresses to use in their scams.

Are these "phishermen" are getting desperate or something?
*sings* "I like Gammera! He's so neat!!! He is full of turtle meat!!!"

"Hah! You are doomed! You're only armed with that pathetic excuse for a musical instrument!!!" *the Savage Beast moments before Lonnehart the Bard used music to soothe him... then beat him to death with his Fat Lute*

This! Their ability to outdo their own failures is quite impressive. If only this power could be harnessed for good.

Phishing has a really low success rate. One per million emails sent is supposed to be a great haul. When emails are free* it doesn't make sense to even try to filter your email list for viable targets, which is difficult and time/labor intensive. Your recipients will basically filter them for you.

*-even bandwidth costs are zero, because they're usually generated by botnet zombies anyway. Once properly set up, the entire process is pretty much automated: computers infected by the botnet collect everything that looks like an email address, send them all emails, sometimes even host the fake login pages. They usually will also immediately log in to an account when they get a bite and run a script designed to change the password and rebind it to a controlled email account, so the account is locked down within seconds and it usually buys at least a few hours before the owner can reclaim it through support. There's a couple ones targeting WoW accounts that can do this so fast that the authenticator keytag's code will still be good.

a long time ago i got an email from bilzzard about having a WoW account and how it will be shut down, but since i never played WoW in my life or even registered any details about it, i wasnt concerned. all that magic, swords and mayhem stuff i never liked, for that same reason i never watched harry potter or whatever. although for some reason LOTR is the exception to that. anyways..

i occasionally get email messages from "myself" which i delete instantly. some of these phishing attempted are really lame.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
