"This is Captain Ramek of the S.S. Latinum, hailing any Federation vessel in range! Our ship has been hit by a mine near the Archanis system! Warp drive and sensors are offline, shields are failing and forward weapons are gone! We have taken casualties!"
Izlet put the message on automated broadcast. Then a small explosion occured on the bridge. Izlet hurried over to see what failed now.
"Ramek, we have a bit of a problem here..."
"So, what exploded this time?"
"We just lost communications. If anybody comes to help us, they have no way of letting us know. At least the automated broadcast probe is still working."
"Well then. Now we wait for our rescue, or for the Klingons to find us."
OOC: This is my first time launching a RP thread. I'm not sure what to expect of the story development here. I'm hoping to see a few persons play as either the Feds or the KDF, and see where this small-starting story ends up. Hoping you will enjoy!

OOC: Just as a bit of advanced warning - I find it easier to write in a screenplay format. If you'd prefer I wrote in a more conventional manner, I'll certainly try, but in the meantime...
*U.S.S. Victorious, patrolling the Regulus Sector Block. The Exeter-Class Cruiser makes its way through space slowly as it performs a sensor sweep.
Bridge. Lieutenant Commander Ryan Allington is seated in the command chair when his First Officer and Operations Officer, the Soong-type Android 'Alpha', turns to him.*
Alpha: Captain, we are picking up a distress call from a Ferengi Freighter; the S.S. Latinum. They are reporting to have struck a mine in the Archanis System and are requesting assistance.
Talassa: What were they even doing there?
Ryan: They were probably trying to avoid a Federation checkpoint.
Alright, sound General Quarters! Helm, take us to the Archanis System, warp 7!
Helm: Aye, sir!
*The Victorious soon jumps to warp, heading for the contested system.
Within an hour, it arrives and stops near the Ferengi ship.*
Ryan: Report.
Alpha: The freighter appears to have lost communications, warp drive, sensors, shields and weapons.
Ryan: Drop shields. Beam the crew aboard. I don't want to hang around here any longer than we have to.
Alpha: Energising.
The crew is aboard.
Ryan: Have the captain of that ship report to the bridge.
Alpha, do you think we can tow the ship out of the minefield?
Alpha: It is possible, but the Klingons are known to operate raiders in this area. They will have likely heard the distress call and already be on their way.
The ferengi captain is on his way to the bridge, sir.
Ramek walked through the big corridors. Somewhere, he knew he should be grateful to still be alive. But the way that the Starfleet officer looked at him did not make Ramek feel any easier.
Starfleet would probably try to understand what a Ferengi freighter was doing this deep in Eta Eridani. It is no big secret that most Klingons don't feel affection for Ferengi, so saying that it was a trading mission would only backfire.
But how else was he going to defend his cargo? Normally, he would have dumped his shipload and used whatever weapons he had left to annihilate it. But this time, it was all different.
Ramek knew he would have made a handsome profit, maybe even enough to open himself a nice outpost on a planet like Mol'Rihan. Although Romulans aren't the best of people to live with, at least there were opportunities of plenty there. Opportunities that the Ferenginar of the day did no longer offer.
And now, because some crazy Klingons decided to mine the Archanis system, all of that would be lost. More importantly, Ramek might even get in serious problem with the captain of that big, shiny Starfleet Cruiser.
All of that went through his mind. He did not yet have an excuse ready when the turbolift stopped on the bridge.
Ramek walked forward with a nervous feeling in his stomach.
OOC: Like I said, I'm pretty new to the RP forums. So I'm just gonna learn as much as possible from this thread. Which is why I picked a simple story (I think) to begin with. I'll appreciate any advice you can give me.

*Ryan looks at Ramek as he steps onto the Bridge.*
Ryan: Captain, welcome to the U.S.S. Victorious. I'm Captain Ryan Allington.
If you don't mind my asking, what were you doing in the Archanis System? This system has been marked as a warzone by the Federation Commerce Authority.
A very large Bortasq class vessel decloaked 300 km away from the gathered ships. It had a very strange signature to it.. tacyhon displacement and a chroniton flux gradient. It also looked.. extremely bizarre.. Borg components were embedded in the ship, it had a very unusual Reman weapons array, and had been very heavily modified from its factory configuration. Its shields also had a temporal phase variant. All ships present would detect these anomalies, but scans would not be able to penetrate the hull. It sat there.. and did nothing. There was an inscription on the hull, but it had been ablated, it read "GCS.. " with what followed unreadable. It appeared to be moving on inertia alone.
ooc: You're not the only new one to rping on the forums so no worries :P
'Enemy ship detected, sir!' stated the tactical officer 'designated as 'USS Victorious'
'Good, charge weapons, fire when ready!' ordered Keshka. The IKS Ch'Kok decloaked, and began shredding the Starfleet vessels hull with disruptors.
'Their shields are down!' yelled the tactical officer!
'beam their Dilithium and cargo, as well as the Ferengi crew' ordered Keshka
There was a buzz as the transporter teleported the cargo. 'Warp out, NOW!' yelled Keshka, as the Ch'Kok warped out.
The scimitar class dreadnaught warbird R.R.W. Harax had picked up the latinums distress call while on patrol near the Archanis system and set a course to respond at maximum warp.
Centurion Sier looked up from his station "Admiral we are detecting weapons fire sir. picking up the freighter, two klingon vessels, and one starfleet ship sir the U.S.S. Victorius. She appears damaged sensors show fluctuating power levels."
Admiral Vurnak stood up "Raise Shields and go to full alert when we drop out of warp extend our shields around the Victorius, then put us between her and the klingon ships. Hail starfleet and ask if they have any other ships in the area that can respond."
The Harax dropped out of warp just as one of the klingon ships left the system. Vurnak was pleased with his helmsman as they were positioned between the Victorius and the second klingon ship already.
Commander T'lex the ships first officer looked over at Vurnak "Admiral the klingons are not attacking. The Victorius took a beating from the other ship they must have got caught by surprise without there shields up." Vurnak nodded "Open a channel to the Victorius commander."
T'lex pressed a button on her console "Channel open sir."
Vurnak nodded "This is Admiral Vurnak of the Romulan Republic we have extended our shields around you and offer any assistance you require Victorius. We show your power levels are fluctuating what is your situation?"
OOC: I am new to forum rp I am open to suggestions about how to be better at it thanks for bearing with me in the meantime
J'mpok turned, anger flashed on his face. The Romulan ambassador was late, and generally that doesn't help someones lifespan.
The Ambassador suddenly walked into the chamber, and J'mpok turned to him. 'Romulan green blooded viper, we heard that one of your ships attempted to destroy two of our battleships' J'mpok snarled. The Romulan ambassador shifted uncomfortably in her seat. 'Well, err, that warbird was, errrr, acting, errr, out of the Republics interests' the Romulan said uncomfortably. 'Starfleet will pay for this, with their blood, and if the Republic attempts to stop them, they will be slain in battle' J'mpok roared. The Romulan frowned, 'errrrr, I must speak with D'Tan. Thank you.' The Romulan said, as she walked off.

A simple weapon trading deal to some local Gorn rebels had completely backfired.
He knew that the KDF doesn't like Ferengi. And they don't like rebels.
If Starfleet would not be able to get on course to Qo'nos soon, the KDF transporter room might very well be the last place Ramek would ever see.
At least he had the latinum to buy himself into the Divine Treasury.
