Android Boff

whitewinged7whitewinged7 Member Posts: 86 Arc User
I cant seem to make the search function work properly at all.

So I will ask here I recently became a lifer and am happy with that choice especially the instant vet rewards.

Can someone tell me a little about the android boffs and what they are like etc.

I have an old 50 from years ago but am uninterested in continuing his career so Im a fresh LT. Fed Engineer with a focus on survive ability.

Thanks for any info on androids and what you think of them feel free to tell me anything about lifetime stuff you guys like alot that I may not be participating in.

I like to give my Android melee weapons and watch him chop into things with his big strength value. I also think it is cool that if he dies he has the ability to respawn himself.

I have had my Android respawn and then come and rez me after a team wipe. :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

They're very strong on ground missions as cosmic1 noted. Put an android and the Voth guy from the Dyson rep tree on your away team and you'll always have 2 immortal teammates.

One thing I've always found odd is that they have no space traits. Why wouldn't an android come with the "Efficient" trait?

The one problem with androids is they cannot be traded for training.

As already said, androids make excellent ground party members. i tend to make mine the healer.

Other stuff, make sure to pick up the fireworks emote and the Ev suit, if you don't already have one from the new FE.

You can pick up as many of the EV suits as you want, making it easy to outfit your party.

The fireworks emote is a nice pretty, with virtually no practical use whatsoever. Although I have seen it used in Azure to signal a newly emerged 5-pointer.

Check out both the vet destroyers and the captains yacht.

The shuttle is very decent, nice hull and shields. Comes with EptS as standard.

The destroyers are not bad at all, and can work perfectly well as endgame ships.

Just a few of the vet rewards off the top of my head. There are plenty more, but imo its worth it.

I've never considered trying to use it as a flare in Azure before, though in a PUG people would probably assume you're just trolling. I generally just use it to celebrate the end of a successful STF run. :D

    Very true.

And a ten console ship, of any stripe, for a single module is not to be sneezed at.

Saw someone else do it a few months ago, we were all split up chasing ones and twos in Azure and they managed to get our attention.

I do it myself nowadays, if we're split up and a 5 turns up.

Dunno if its helpful, but it is a pretty cool effect anyway...lol

I always pop my fireworks when entering Sol. It is just my way of saying: "we made it home!" :)

Actually, for a near useless toy, it does get a fair bit of work on my ships.

It's a genuinely fun thing, imo, and always reminds me of the last episode of Voyager.

android as others have said are great ground boffs. due to not being able to trade for training it might be worth picking say an eng android if your an engineer for example then you can train them yourself.

the fleet vet romulan ship is awesome in looks and to play. for 1 fleet module it's not a ship to skip imo.

The Android has ground Traits: Android, Reboot, Acute, and Creative. Those Traits are all for ground-based. He can have any Skills you want to give him, but his Traits make him suitable for away teams.

His Skills are fairly generic for his Class; IIRC, nothing at level 3.

I don't remember what skills the android comes with, but you cant give them to another player to train.

You can still use the skill trainer at ESD and, if they're in the same profession as you, you can train them yourself.

They'll have their four space boff skills, as normal, but don't get any space traits.

If you mouse over any non assigned bridge officers in your lists, you'll see ground and space traits in addition to four each of space and ground skills.

Some of these are highly prized. Human boffs, for instance, improve your hull heal rate. Thats a space trait.

However, our androids dont have any space traits, instead getting a bunch of useful ground traits.

I was referring to ground and space traits, not skills. The Android boff comes with 4 ground traits, but no space traits. That means he's useful on your away team for ground missions but sort of meh for manning one of your ship's bridge slots because none of his special abilities are going to contribute to your ship's performance.

More details here, this is slightly out of date because you can now choose an android in any profession, not just engineering:

The vet ship is probably one of the best perks we get. Very versatile. Here's a full list of all vet rewards in case you weren't aware of some others:

of course they can have space skills. it's just that they have a unique ground trait. where as some boffs have traits that effect space, the android sadly don't. it has reboot so when it's dead it self rezz himself in ground combat.

it might be best for you to train the skills you want to him to get the best out of him that suits you. you can only train the eng android tho.

also just so you know romulans don't have an android boff of their own. you either have access to the kdf android or the federation android.

Dumb question, but how do you get the firework emote? Is it automatic?

It is a 300 Day Vet Reward. You pick it up from a console near the Shipyard in ESD - or north of Ragan in First City.
