Exploration coolness

Hello there!

I've always wondered 'Why is it Star Trek and the Federation claim to promote peace, yet they always travel armed to the teeth?"

I've had a theory - that the energy you put out there, you receive right back at ya. Show up at a party with guns and armor. Expect to use them. Show up to a party nekked wearing only a party hat, and well.. You know you're REALLY Gonna have some fun!

Testing out this theory, for my active prime level 50 character on STO, I sold all my weapons and armor, then popped in to planet after planet after planet.

Lo and behold, what do I get? New missions to analyze 'extremely rare' space rocks, to talk to errant ferrengi, and to retrieve programs. it seriously has been a different game playing... quite literally - nekked!

Sure, I get the occasional mission where they ask for elimination of key targets. But I look at it this way. If you want someone or something offed, go do it yourself, quit making me do your dirty work. I'm in this to explore.

It's changed the game. Now I've only been doin it for 4 hours, but the game has fundamentally shifted from the combat oriented thing it was before to how it is now. I've been getting mission after mission that's absolutely new, unlike anything I've had before, and consistent to the lack of arsenal I'm carrying! It's like the program 'recognizes' what I have on me, and provides an experience according to that.

Impossible you say?

Padawan, you have yet to understand energy and how source code programming is not absolute....

Heck, even Oprah caught on to that and sold a book based on it called 'The Secret'. It really aint that much of a secret if Oprah's talking about it.

Purty cool if i must say so myself.

.. back to my new game...

You do realize that kids play this game and what you are asking for will never happen. More interesting non-combat missions would be nice, but not the kind of content you want. There are various MMOs that have the type of content you want, but not Star Trek Online.

It looks to me you did some patrol mission. I recently did the one with the Ferengi merchant and the hologram program. It is quite fun. Now there are quite a few non combat patrol missions but like every patrol mission they are hard coded. System A has mission X and will always have it. This is contrary to the explore cluster mission, where you get a mission at random, combat, non combat, space or ground etc.

It would be a very nice feature though if these exploration missions would select the type of mission based on your ship or ship outfit. If you take a shuttle or a freighter you would get collect and non-combat missions and when you are in a space ship you would get combat and non-combat. A fighter would give you combat mission suited for that type of craft.

A toggle stance would also work, like non-combat, combat heavy ships, combat small ships.

How else are you supposed to interpret "Show up to a party nekked wearing only a party hat, and well.. You know you're REALLY Gonna have some fun!"? The OP is known for wanting to create Adult-rated content in Star Trek Online.

    Hello there!

    Oh, it's you again. :(

Because we come in peace- shoot to kill, shoot to kill, shoot to kill...

Yes. Like so many of his previous threads it was...um..."disturbing" to say the least.

Though advocating showing up to a party naked is perhaps not quite so bad as advocating driving across Texas at well above legal speed limits while playing games, I guess.

Go watch Enterprise and you'll know why they explore the universe armed to the teeth.

Ok, taking this at face value the idea of being able to do exploration missions without having to shoot space bad guys I think is good one. Not everyone likes going around and blowing everyone who looks at them funny into dust bunnies (I do...I think of it as aggressive recycling.) Having an alternate leveling or progression path that involves no violence is a good idea, I think. Space is a big place, and Star Trek has room for pacifists.

However, going out into the unknown with no way of defending yourself, is foolish. Without a way to protect yourself, you and your crew are potential victims, putting yourself at the mercy of anyone who IS armed.

The game mechanics have no such trigger. If you have a run of only explore missions, that is just a function of rng. Mission cycling is random. You have a chance of even getting the same mission multiple times, the only thing that changes is the planet/race name, which is also randomized.

And yeah, like the others here, I am slightly suspicious of the OP given some of his other ideas.
