Duty Officer and Assignment Issues

Hi there -

Ok, I have a very low level guy (13) and another character who's level 50. My 13 gets an assignment requiring a systems engineer, clearly a duty officer I can't afford, so I think to myself 'self, why not transfer funds and/or duty officers between characters.

Not possible, right?

Now while that is not a wholly problematic issue.

Duty Officer Management kinda blows for a couple reasons:

#1 You can't EVER get feedback about what the duty officer wants to and does not want to do for an assignment. You get recommendations from the Officer level guys. but when I have some assignments which really I am interested in finding out what happens if I throw different people on them, it would actually be nice to inquire - what do my duty officers want to do, especially if I got them interested in a task that was mundane? You know. Like real life can be, when you sometimes throw conflicting or different personalities on project when you know they may or may not work well together, and sometimes you're more interested in stirring the pot a little rather than the always assuming optimal odds are most interesting for the project outcome itself?

Also, you have more assignment issues:
#1 There's never any way to find out what assignments are important - at every level. That is, what assignment does your medical officer feel is critical? What assignment does your Tactical officer feel is critical? What does your entire rosters of duty officers feel is critical. What does your favorite duty officer feel is critical? In a nutshell, there's no way to easily understand priority of your own staff, and understand subjective perspective (as in - what are THEY interested in, and what are the patterns of their behavior that outlines who they are and what's important to them?).
#2 A right click on a duty officer + "abort assignment" would be nifty.

thanks!

You can trade or mail non-bound officers between your characters. (Use mail if they're both on the same account.) Funds can be transferred through the account bank.

In addition to what you suggested above, I'd also like to know which Duty Officers have completed very few, or no, duty assignments...among other things. I'd think they could come up with something, if not what officers "prefer", then at least how suitable each one is at a glance for a particular assignment....

Too many more suggestions stuck in the back of my sleepy brain right now...

The thing is, doffs have no skills. They have no record. Past missions have no bearing on future missions.

The only thing that affects their chances are their traits and specialization, and how they line up with the assignment at hand. Literally everything about a doff is just a fixed weight added to the random number table. The closest thing to "hidden" factors are special item rewards on critical success, and that's not something determined by the doffs you use.

So, what do their "preferences" matter? What would their preferences even be, if all they do is move the pie chart?

Rationally, the only possible use for "preferences" is determining the chances of them refusing a direct order thus leading to a well-deserved Court Martial.

Preferences kind of go out the window when you enlist.
