What should be done to Gateway ?

02/04/2014 Priority One Interview with Steven D'Angelo talks about what to do with Gateway.

Here's an idea, I think Gateway should be renamed to

- Star Trek Online - Bridge Officer Reports

You could send your actual bridge officers on away missions that have rewards in-game.
Some might take anywhere from 1 - 24 hours to complete. Others will be Major Away missions that could take a month to complete. It's like a duty officer mission but for your selected bridge officer.

This will grey out your bridge officer in-game. The bridge officer will not be usable in game and any items your bridge officer has equipped with them will not be available and your bridge officer status window will say " This bridge officer is on an away mission "

What would be the point ?

Maybe you send your bridge officer to explore a new planet and they find alien life and make first contact. It would add exploration back into the game and make Star Trek Online accessible to millions of people with smart phones and tablets.

If your bridge officer fails the away mission, they could suffer injuries, But will not be able to be killed. You would NOT be able to lose your bridge officers on away missions.

You could run up to 5 away missions at anytime, You can assign up to 7 bridge officers in total on those 5 away missions. You can assign up to 3 bridge officers per mission.

Some missions will cost Energy credits/Dilithium/ GPL gold-pressed latinum to run. You choose from a list of StarFleet Away Team Orders

Some missions will have priority over others, you will have to make the decision on how many you want to send on each mission or how many missions you want to run at once. The more bridge officers you send on any one Away mission the greater the reward and greater the success of the mission.

This WILL NOT change the in-game duty officer system or missions.

The more you send would reward the rich since they will have more Boffs. I have max Boffs on a lot of my characters, majority being purple and blue. Plus the max in the candidate list. There should be a cap on missions maybe 4 max with specialty slots like 2 tacs, 1 eng , 1 sci depending on type of mission.
Hey I Used to be Captain Data, well I guess I still am in game but the account link really screwed everything up

I would use Gateway every day while I'm at work if I could collect and queue up DOff missions, change my outfits and my BOff outfits, mess with ship builds, and access the exchange.

Basically, I want to be able to use Gateway to do the "boring stuff" that I want to get done but that I don't necessarily want to do when I'm at my PC and playing the game. I might only have a few hours to play each day but I could spend several more hours each day messing with DOff missions, selling/buying on the exchange, and customizing my characters and ships.
In the immortal words of Captain Sisko: "It may not be what you believe, but that doesn't make it wrong."

Don't believe the lies in this forum. I am NOT an ARC user. I play STO on Steam or not at all.

AL Rivera has said on Priority One Podcast the Duty Officer System is too complex for gateway, you cannot do those things there. And Steven D'angelo has said Gateway for Sto is not doing well, it's either gonna be changed or shutdown.

It seems like a shame that STO is considering doing away with Gateway. I would love the functionality for when I'm away from the game. They mentioned that it could be scrapped as it's not utilized, but that is because it has not functional use at this point. Come on Cryptic, put the resources into it and then see if it gets used before deciding based on no evidence that it wouldn't be used.

DOFF System was all the big fuss was about.

-They- announced and explained it in the first dev blog of the Gateway on the official site.

How is it possible that a company start a new project without knowing that the primary aim was impossible to achieve?

Either they were really drunk the day they took the decision, or are simply lying us because,

you know, simply like every new project still in beta it has to have bugs, but being, you know, Cryptic,

they didn't care and give a damn fixing it and adding functionalities BEFORE seeing any return.

How they can seriously think to profit from something that is not ready?

and SO they stop development on?

Both cases they are not a serious company, all of this is ridiculous.
I still dream from time to time about using the Gateway to doff off-game in spare minutes as we were told
