Whatever happened to the ground Romulan Set?

I heard it touched on in a dev interview sometime around, along with EV suits, which we eventually got.

So what about a ground set from the New Romulus reputation? Is that in the works, is it something you'd like to get to, is it not planned and not gonna happen?

You've already got the flame thrower down. Only 2 pieces left.

Also, you've got the personal covariant shield and overcharged plasma sniper in games. You could do those like you did the prototype reman shield, release them in low levels in the campaign as a sample, and then port them in a refined-mk 12 version set to the romulan rep?

There's options if it was to be pursued, I just haven't heard much about it.

A ground Romulan set would be cool, but I don't expect it to happen any time soon unfortunately

The real question is ... if there WAS a Ground Romulan/Reman Set ... what would it be oriented AGAINST? Borg? Tholians? Voth? Undine? Iconians? Elachi? Empress Sela?

KHG and MACO and Omega sets are oriented against the Borg.
Nukara sets are oriented against the Tholians.

I mean, I *get* the underlying point that a Ground Romulan/Reman Set would be about Plasma weapons ... specifically the Plasma Piercing Rifle. But would the rest of the set be "tailored" to fight a specific enemy? I'd argue that the Tholians would make the most logical/natural choice, since Tholians are present on Mol Rihan (New Romulus) and in the Azure Nebula. That said, a Dyson Sphere is a BBIIGG place with lots of ground to fight over (insert Land War In Asia joke and watch it disappear into a tiny little marker labeled "you are here" beside a piece of fairy cake) ... so I could see an argument to be made for having a Ground Romulan/Reman Set oriented towards defeating Voth.

The Romulan ground set should compliment the Fed's MACO and KDF's KHG set, so it should have a weapon with extra damage against the Borg and Insta-Remodulation for the 3pc set. Ideally, I'd like the weapon to be a High-Density Beam Rifle but any beam rifle will do for me.

I like the way you think. I could easily see a rom-plas variant of the plasma piercing rifle, especially with the new built in flashlight they're putting in the hirogen lockbox, but geared towards fighting elachi. That would be an awesome set.

Also, who's to say there's only one set they could do then? Rom rep has 2 space sets, Nukara has 3 ground sets. Romulans have lots of enemies, they might need different specializations.

So many options, so little love.

Considering the design of the other items we can get from the rep-system, they might as well make it a universal set, other than vs. a specific enemy.

+plasma damage, +stealth, +stealth detection, +shield hit points with no specific energy type resistance. 3-pc set bonus could add some singularity-based ground skill for example.

Overall, I don't think they're going to go back and add it, in the same way they won't add AP space weapons, cores or a romulan "maco" set to Omega rep. Romulan rep is simply too old, with too many people having completed it for it to be worth to get another incentive added to it.

I have seen a few posts about a "generic" faction rep for each faction, which isn't geared against any particular enemy but rather gives (as per Fraghul2000's suggestion) added bonuses to the faction's preferred weapons and other traits.

Now, the Fed and KDF already have generic-sounding ground sets in the Omega reputation, so their faction rep items would have to be named something else (unless players would accept a rename of the MACO and Honor Guard sets, but that seems unlikely), but it could work. I can see these sets having costume unlocks and other cosmetic items as well, maybe a new ship material? Like, why do only Romulans get a consumable reinforcement as well as the standard Tac officer summon? Put that stuff in the faction rep instead ^^

If this is done, it would make a lot more sense to go back and add a ground set to he Romulan rep. That rep could still be available to all, since Romulans would also have access to the ally faction's reputation.
