Error with crew capacity and assignments

Hi there!

I just wanted to point out a pretty glaring error:

I upgraded my ship to one with a crew capacity of 350 people.

Right now, I have 100 Duty officers + 7 Department heads which, including myself, a contingent of 108 people. And STO returns an error telling me I 'do not have capacity' to add another duty officer as I just leveled Engineering skills and got another freebie.

I understand you think this is a game.

For me, it's a window into an alternate reality and I'm busy saving the universe.

So could you fix this so I can have more duty officers to liven up my sparsely populated hallways and add more variety to my crew's skills? The diversity of my officers and crew deserves it!

Also, the arbitrary cap of Active Assignments should be correlated to the # of crew. I'd imagine you'd want to make sure the starship can effectively run without running into some arbitrary numeric one size fits all cap as has been coded. AS it's coded. It just doesn't make sense, limiting everyone regardless of starship size to a maximum of 20 assignments, 21 if you have someone in sick bay. Logically, this just does not make sense, and some nerds like me love seeing how far the research system can be pushed!

The fate of the galaxy depends on you. Well, technically, on me, but you can help me achieve my goals more effectively.

I'm not quite sure what those goals are yet other than to see a starship and holodeck firsthand, and I figure if I imagine the first contact missions getting better than they are (they suck by the way), then maybe the first contact I'll be doing in a revised system will have me first contacting our Earth from my own remotely controlled starship.

Thanks!

Sooo people why fly around in a Bord of Prey with a crew of 36 should also be capped at 36?
How about people who fly around in a carrier with a whooping 4,000 crew?
Should they get 4,000 DOFF slots too?
Sorry but that doesn't make any sense.

total crew capacity of the ship has nothing to do with your duty officer roster size.

the doff system was added well after a crew stat was on ships.

    This explains so much.

But seriously, how are the negotiations about getting paid real money for making "adult" ( ) Foundry missions going?

The rest of your crew are busy with their regular duties, and are not available for special assignments.
You're right. The work here is very important.

    Hi there. Me again.

I was wondering. I love doing the research and assignments.

Yesterday, I was cracking up at my failure message for 'host a Shipboard Concert':

It was something along the lines of:
"The concert was a total failure, so much so that Doctor has seen a sharp rise in amnesia inducing medication"

I couldn't stop laughing all last night.

So with that said, I'm a huge fan of the assignments, and am a little disappointed in the 'return in investment' you get for time spent on these assignments.

Typically, it's a handful of experience in one form or fashion, and a few random goodies, and sometimes a subsequent chain mission to wash rinse repeat all over again.

I was thinking. The game's SO combat oriented. Unlike the tv series, which is predicated on discovery and exploration.

Is it possible you could revise the system to 'balance' it out for the trekkies like me who fell in love with the exploration? Foundry starts that. But assignments, I feel, can be expanded on and built into a pretty robust system which can attract the more intellectual or females who prefer non-combative games.

For instance, rewards for certain assignments can include non combat areas, exclusive cut scenes, and the ability to generate and socialize in a research oriented community where you create assignments for eachother and those in your group, all the way to exclusive content - perhaps even Foundry content - discovered 'by chance' tailored specifically for those who may have 'hit on the right sequence'.

Now I already assume this is part of the game as it is, as I have seen hints of it as I do more and more anti war oriented assignments and assign 'all the wrong people' to missions just to see what happens (and get hilarious messages like I did above)...

But there seems to be an arbitrary limitation to messages.

My advice is: Can you add more 'community' building to the research and discovery oriented aspect of Star Trek Online? Fleets are tailored for destruction, maybe there's other fleets you can create through... assignments and a new way of distributing and sharing content?

Duty officers are not related to your ships crew.

Two different systems. Crew system has to do with passive hull regen and subsystem repairs.

Duty officer system is a card game that you play alongside, and adds passives to your powers if you equip them.

You can purchase a duty officer cap upgrade from the zen store. Either 25 or 100 slots. These are permanent.

As for the limit of 20 projects, it is in place for the same reason there is no ships with three commander bridge officer slots. It's balance and it is a cost. You can do this little reserch project that only awards 50 doff exp, but then you may not have room for the super rare mission later on. So you have to weigh your resource and see if it is worth it. Kinda like how a captain has to weigh their resources.

Also, you can purchase an additional doff mission slot from the Romulan Embassy on your fleet holdings.

Just because we have X amount of crew, and Y amount of DOFF slots, doesn't mean that all of those crew are necessarily ON your ship though.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
