Dont take rep too seriuosly, I have been playing for a while and have ye to to hit tear 5, I have been nibbling at them slowely over several characters, now with the new sponsorship tokens, I am focusing my efforts on specific rep projects, this way I can get the end goal faster, however you dont NEED any of the stuff from them to play the game, they are just desirable, so dont fret about rep, do it as and when you can, I only get on 3-4times a week but always try to pop on and set a few rep programs running.

You really don't have to do the rep all at once for every toon, taking a toon and doing all of them will be a miserable experience. I think there are 4 useful points to be made:
To start do the Omega rep all the way through or at least until T4, this gives you access to good space and ground gear.
Find the easy way to get the relevant marks: Omega elite space STFs; romulan chase those bunnies; dyson battlezone and daily ship one; nukara I used crystalline. Use the bonus mark events to save effort.
Get into a fleet and play with players that can assist, good players can carry weak ones and offer advice.
Try to get a character through each rep and buy tokens, on remaining alts be choosey about which ones you do.
I'm actually enjoying this one. The Dyson grind is not terrible like the others have been mainly because you're playing with lots of other people instead of just 5.
Also there's this tendency to want to instance everything. so glad they didn't this time!
What I like about this rep is that it's easy to get the marks, the missions reset quickly (it's not a daily for everything), it's a group effort yes but there's multiple choices, the gear actually functions (unlike the last science based gear Nukara which didn't work well at all, beams that say they bounce but actually DON'T because the proc % is too low is not my idea of a good system).
I would like them to go back and revamp the borg ground area to make it more like the sphere on Defera. I really would. They balanced it well and made it fun this time. On Defera there was hardly any marks for what you went through especially with the harder missions which random strangers couldn't help you with without having to go thru the process of lfg constantly. It really wasn't worth it imo, for the Omega missions is it any wonder why to this day the two Space STFs and the RA's are the only things most of us will do for Omega Marks? It's that bad of a design.
I have to say, I've been terribly spoiled by the winter event. I banked enough marks on sub-50 alts to (with the 1/2 off tokens) level the 3 older reps to tier 5 without having to earn a single additional mark. This isn't as efficient a way to do Dyson, so I'll do that one normally.
Admittedly, with all the Eppoh racing, I guess I just substituted one grind for another?
But the benefit to arriving at 50 with a pile of marks in each rep is I can immediately start turning them all over every night. Everything stays in sync. Go do something Dyson, turn over the commendation, fly back to Regulus to top up any commodities and turn over the other 3 reps. The only additional grinding needed is for any equipment I might want.
So... only create new alts during the Summer/Winter events if you're a Reputation completionist, I guess?
Primary issue with the rep grind has been the issue of alts with secondary issues being the need for all these items one had to gather to advance them.
Cryptic addressed the first with officer sponsorship and the second with the structure of the dyson rep. I thought those were good solutions and hope to see a dyson like strucutre on the existing reps.
Love officer sponsorship...opened back up the enjoyment of the game for me. Started playing semi retired alts and even created a couple more after this change. That directly resulted in more cash from me to Cryptic. Hats off
First off, I only do space missions for marks with the exception of the Dyson Battlefield. Space is where I have the most fun.
My only real issue is the lack of continuity for the different Reps... The Voth system is by far the easiest if you do the Battlefield for around 2-3 hours per day. You can earn enough Dyson Marks, convert to Commendations, and get the full 100k rep in less than a week. The Dilithium you earn in addition to the Marks is also very nice.
It was stated when the Dyson system came out that if there was enough interest, all of the other Reputation Trees would be converted to the same system. I hope they are still considering that. Converting 350 Dyson Marks into 5 Commendations, I can get enough for Tier 5 Dyson in roughly 4 days of casual Battlefield grinding. It's especially nice with the Sponsorship tokens. It takes 20 Commendations to achieve Tier 5 Dyson Rep if you have claimed Sponsorship and 40 without... even at 40 Commendations, not much work involved there.
The worst, for me at least, is the Romulan grind. I had no problems grinding Rep with the Elachi Alert when it was around and adding the Azure Nebula Rescue to earn enough to get the 2 projects running each day. When the Elachi Alert was taken away, that made me reconsider continuing to go down the Romulan Reputation path. The only other times I seriously gather Romulan Marks is during the Summer/Winter Events.
Omega and Nukara are relatively easy grinds, so I won't say anything about them. If you do the Crystalline Entity x2 and The Cure Found (E) and Infected The Conduit (E), you can easily get both projects for Omega and Nukara on cooldown and still have ample time to do other, more enjoyable things.

My wish is that they standardize the Reputation trees using the Dyson model. At least there is basically no cost in the regards of actually going up the reputation tiers. The cost comes from buying the gear and the other amenities that come with the tiers.
The time-gates are not really an issue with me... those simply allow me to move on to another alt and is allows me to do something else, whether it be another rep grind, doing missions, STFs, etc.

Omega needs to be made into a Dyson system.
