Fed:Avenger-class, for looking tough and functional.
KDF:Tor'Kaht-class. I love the beaked nose.
Rom:Daeinos-class. Sleek and aggressive.

Patrol escorts. I've made a few good designs with the bits but the Hermes class is actually a fine looking ship in its own right.

Looking for something new to play? I've started building Foundry missions again in visual novel form!
Most Cryptic designs are just fugly. Non functional, over exaggerated lego TRIBBLE. Not a single one comes close to original designs such as the Galaxy, Vor'cha or Valdore.
There are a view exceptions however.
Romulan: Ak'rif and dyson.
Federation: Vesta and Oddy
KDF: Mog and the Bortas
Does the Vesta count? I thought that was a design done by the folks that do the books that the Aventine appeared in?
Anyways, for me it's the Exeter. And then the Vo'Quv.
I'm not really going to count Romulans yet, since they need a few more Cryptic designs to choose from for me. I kind of like the Dhelan Dill Pickle ship, but want to see more before I make a pick.
When it comes to ship designs, it really is hard to strike the balance because of the underlying themes and features surrounding a factions starship. At the current point in time the Cryptic design team is striking a reasonably good balance with Klingon and Romulan ship designs, but that is because those two factions don't have a narrow design field to work on. With the current designs for example every one in six will dislike the design.
For me the Daeinos and Mogh are my favourite Romulan and Klingon ship, with their Dyson ships not too bad looking, but Federation is an entirely different subject.
This might be a bit harsh, but Cryptic is rubbish at designing Federation ships in my opinion, primarily due to the fact that less than half of the fed ships they have made aren't aesthetically appealing. The team designing federation ships needs to stick their heads into deviant art or another website that hosts fan art FOR A MONTH. (NERD RAGE!)
Some Fed ships were close to being my favourite to be honest, if not for their extreme flaws. Cryptic, if you can decrease the size of the Chimera's belly so it wasn't so bulbous and fix the fugly neck of the Avenger then they would sit right next to your best designs so far.
And revise ALL of the canon variations to the federation ships you have developed.
Otherwise I quite like the Exeter and Thunderchild class that Cryptic has made. Odyssey is cool but it's fan made and I don't like it's sloping nacelles.
I'd say Odyssey as it's sleek design is a nice upgrade to the Sovereign and fits in nicely with design lineage - but as it's technically not a Cryptic original it might not count...
Aside form that maybe the Star Cruiser. I know it's not a huge favourite but to me if you mix some of the skins it looks like a Trek version of the Galactica - something that might have fit into the background as a carrier for all those peregrines in DS9, the Defiants big brother in design logic.
Yeah the Odyssey is sleek and sexy. The Black & White paint scheme really adds to it's looks. Honestly that's the ONLY Star Trek ship that I have as a wallpaper on my Triple Monitor Eyefinity setup.
One day Cryptic will be free from their Perfect World overlord. Until that day comes, they will continue to pamper the whales of this game, and ignore everyone that isn't a whale.
I think this version from the design contest would have been amazing. Blows away, and shows much more understanding of design than Cryptic. The front is intimidating. The long nacelles give it extreme perspective when viewing from the back, and the nacelle colors are slightly reminiscent of the late 70s rainbow warp Trek. The pylon/wing style gives it more majesty and power. Great shuttle bay idea. The designer makes it look huge. Some of the large ships in the game, Cryptic as well as canon, look more like fighters and hard to judge scale. Anyway, this thing is just awesome.
JamJamz has consistently been knocking it out of the park with the ships in this game. The older designs, not so much... but even the older ugly (and hardly used) Defiant variants are looking pretty great with JamJamz's new take.
I don't know if JamJamz himself is the designer for the new ships, or is just 3D modeling someone else's, but he's been doing a fantastic job. The older and blockier style of Cryptic-designed ships is a thing of the past, for the most part -- the new direction is way better.
That all said, I still think the Venture Class (which I think is from before JamJamz started working on ships in STO) is among my favorites in terms of design. It's sleek and powerful and intimidating, without being overly aggressive.
I also rather like the Thunderchild, such that I almost wish I could use the FTER's stats with the Thunderchild's appearance.
By the way, was the winner chosen by Cryptic, or fan votes?
The fans narrowed it down, but Cryptic ultimately determined the winner.
Damn shame the Fuzzyprise got shut down by the devs so fast after the huge following it had. Would've made a much nicer Vet ship than the Chimera, that's for sure.
I can understand why it's a bit divisive, though. It's definitely a new direction for Federation aesthetics, looking very Federation at a glance but not really resembling anything that came before it.

Though that's not really a Cryptic ship is it? So I'd have to say i like the Regent
KDF: Hegh'ta, Mogh, Varanus, and Tor'kaht

Cross-Faction: Monbosh, S'goloth, and the Bastion

It deserved better than it got.
