Like on the shows when shields are down and getting hit on the hull there is a small explosion/decompression like this picture.
Something like:
If being hit when your shields are down and you are less than 50% hull it has a 25% chance to set off a small explosion effect where the enemy hits
Just a small detail fix but will look good in game

How many weapons in game do small enough amounts of damage to only take off 1 or 2 % of hull nowadays?
I love the idea, but I don't think it'll work in the way you intend. Ideally, I'd love to see it combined with how Bridge commander handled visible damage (i.e. visible damage consisting of mesh changes computed in real time, depending on where the weapons hit, how powerful the bolt was, how tough the hull is etc. enabling ships to be quite literally blown into pieces, or letting you carve your name in an enemies hull) but it'll never happen
