I just go into the social menu's settings and block the drive-by invites completely, myself.

    AHA!

I could kiss you....but I will settle for gently petting your post like a cute kitty.

STO needs a more accessible recruitment page for fleets to post info like size, playstyle, and key interests. The current methods is too unorganized and unregulated. Though the messages should not be considered spam on a public communication channel like Zone or Local, it still is annoying to those engaging in game conversation or social chat (just like the numerous ship award bulletins).

Personally I'd never join a Fleet that was desperately posting in a chat channel, not least because half of them look like they were typed in by that certain "Nigerian Prince" we all know from emails.

And I always turn of Zone Chat on all my toons, because of the crud that gets posted, not just Fleet spam.

    ...

Although new to STO, I've been around MMO's for a while, so I simply looked on these forums, and did a few Google searches to find a good Fleet ...

And that's the key IMHO, finding a "good" Fleet ... What I'd like to see is perhaps a "Fleet Administration" office in ESD or a "House Barracks" in Qo'nos (dunno about the RP of what to call a New Romulus one?) Which would essentially be the Fleet NPC that's already in game, but make it an actual 'destination' or office/zone that's easy to find, because ATM you can easily miss yet another NPC with an icon over there heads.

When you talk to these NPC's it should open basically a menu similar to the "mission window" we have, where Fleets could put up some info about themselves.

In my opinion what the game needs is some sort of fleet recruitment board in the social zones. There could be a special console in places like ESD or DS9 or Qo'nose or New Romulus where people could post a recruitment message and people could see them by clicking on the console. It's better than people spamming recruit messages because they think it's the only way anyone will see it or sending out random invites that no one likes. If anything, if you see someone who isn't in a fleet that you want to invite, send a short mail message with a brief description of your fleet and ask if they'd like to join. People'd probably preffer that over the other and a single mail message could hardly be called spamming

One recruit msg every 5 min or so is not spam. One every 15 seconds is. Somewhere in between those, but more than once every min is way too much IMHO.

As far as it goes, also IMHO, blind fleet invites are far more annoying than spam, so IMO a recruit message is "doing it right" unlike the aggravating fleets that just target people and invite them at random.

I agree with the five minute statement--possibly more, and with the rest of the message.

You need to study the population--or simply swag it. Think about if it's a slow or active day.

On a slow day--maybe once every 30 minutes, enough to cycle through everyone that is actively paying attention. On a speedy day? 10 minutes perhaps. It's all about where you're at, and these are just example I'd probably use for Earth Space Dock.

You want to poke people to let them know you're around and that you care to recruit, but not so much as they remember the last several hundred pokes.

SPAM (Stupid Pointless Annoying Message) can qualify as an offense if used too frequently, especially if it clutters up broadcast questions or pushes up conversations.
