With you there, this is just crazy, I don't think many people have cottoned on to what's actually happening here yet, when they do this forum will explode.

No, just no. That will not do.

    ...

Well, now those that thought nerfing the tour would not affect them, enjoy the fruits of your ignorance. Now that too has a 20 hour for 25 percent of the duration (1/4 time with 5x the wait) lol.

As for the rest of your 'hourly' events, let it go. Cryptic has decided you were exploiting the features, and have nerfed them appropriately.

Oh and btw - people aren't going to 'catch' on, as it was announced well in advance of the release 8.5 rollout that this was occurring, so there is no big surprise. :P

Hey Cryptic, maybe if you made the events people weren't doing as desirable and viable as the events people were doing, you wouldn't need to waste programming time and money on these hourly events to begin with, then removing them entirely.

When the hourly events first came out, I literally laughed at the monitor at the Multi-Phasic Event wondering who thought that was a good idea when it's painfully obvious to me that data samples are oversaturated as it is and still worthless no matter how many sinks you put in.

I like the idea of Tour the Galaxy being a daily, but the time limit on it is ridiculous. Even with subtranswarp engines/asynchronous warp field and the Tal Shiar Warp Core that reduces quantum slipstream cooldown by half, I wasn't able to clear every sector, even using an extremely efficient route to do so.

I'll likely try again but a one hour time limit for the daily would be nice (same as the hourly event), otherwise you're just jerking us around.

It'd probably have been a lot cheaper to pay your programmers to create a reputation system that turns data samples and any other items/currencies during the hourly events into fleet marks and/or dilithium than removing the hourly events entirely.

I'm also not going to bother asking if there will be mid-week events to cater to those players who work weekends. I already know the answer to that.

Mirror Universe was a good way to get expertise for Rep, Rep Stores, and Starbase/Holdings once you've reached lvl50 and played the Episodes.

A lot of the mark PVEs didn't reward enough marks as it is and the queues were empty on most. Now it is even harder to just get into a mission because people don't feel the drive to play them at the same time of day.

Here's the thing I see: Short of making them simply outrageous, most players will still ignore them because one hour just isn't a significant amount of time in most endgame goals to constantly rotate tasks to hit the job of the hour.

Personally I'm curious what the bonus on marks will be during the upcoming weekend. If its no better than the old bonus hour blocks...

I don't object to the weekend events as I think they could work quite well.

In their current format however, take the first weekend event coming up, Dilithium bonus... and Rep bonus the following weekend... once you consider all the bonus weekend varieties it could be a 6 week rotation before seeing the first one again...

What would work better would be on the events calendar at the start of the event period you got to select which event you wanted to participate in, once selected you are locked out of the other events until the next event period where you again get to select an event bonus

I am sure like most new implementations we will have to see how it works, and go from there...

The weekend events are every OTHER weekend so only two a month... really an awful change.

Mirror is being redone for season 9, and im pretty sure academy is becoming a daily.

Mirror is being redone for season 9 to be a CE event type activity according to the latest priorityone interview with CaptainGeko. If that's the case it will be a multi-day grind like CE event for what is sure to be TRIBBLE XP. Probably decent dilithium though if that's your thing.

This weekend event system works good with some of the events, but when it comes to the Fleet Marks, it is a disaster.

Fleet Mark intake is slower because of the loss of the bonus, and in some cases it's harder to find groups because the queues are empty or it's harder to find groups on Defera, because people aren't confined to that small timeframe when you know there is going to be people LFG.

The only thing that I could think of that could make things good again is if Cryptic increased the yield of the Fleet Mark bonus from the Fleet Store or increase the yield on Defera or in some of the PvE Events.

I doubt it. I just don't see it as being important. I never paid attention to the hourly events as it was. I suspect that a large section of the playerbase didn't either.

So long as they bring back the original mirror universe and not some revamped STF-like knock off with annoying objectives, I'll be happy.

If they take away mirror incursion ill immediately stop building any new characters. That would be the final grindreputation killer for me. They should not take people everything away that makes them arrange with the grind !

I find it just terrible. It's a massive over correction. A prime example of fixing what isn't broke...or more accurately throwing the baby out with the bathwater. These are not the solutions you're looking for.

I suggest a mix of both. Keep the hourly events during the week and introduce 2-3 weekend events per month. It was working just fine with the Dyson weekend last time.
Exactly, that seems to be the consensus among forum goers.

There's nothing worse than being forced into a bottleneck like this. What we could spread out over many days of the month will instead be forced into a single weekend. Bad Form.
    iceeaglex wrote: »
Considering they want you to play every day, refine dil every day, dailies, stuff like that, then they take AWAY the daily bonuses? That doesn't make sense.
This will take away a LOT of players during the week. Then you have people that work on weekends, or have other commitments, who will miss out on most of this.
Sure they may get a day on the fringes, but that's not much.
It also means JUST mark grinding that entire time just to make up for the next 3 weeks when you don't get any bonus.

The daily bonus's meant you could switch up what you wanted to do, play different things.
Now its just mass grind one thing. Yuck.

And yes, i know that the dailys were a pain if they were during the night, or when you were at work, and trust me i know, I'm from Aus, so our times are WAY out and we get the short straw.
Yet i still prefer that system to this.
The nice thing was that the events during the day at least repeated and shuffled around a little. As far as grinding for marks or xp is concerned you essentially just blocked out three days of the week for play time where everyone is going to be on cooldown.

all they had to do was remove the crafting hour and the academy event.
however in true cryptic style they removed the lot.sigh.

Exactly. Crafting is almost completely obsolete and a dilithium sink and the rewards for the academy event were an absolute waste of time and life.

And not having an event the weekend they delete the hourlys was just mean. I actually had a mild anticipation for what it might've been.

They'll probably re-release the Mirror Invasion as a full-up FA with Season 9, which I can only assume will include the addition of a Mirror Reputation, Mirror STFs, a new FE and other goodies that will be sprinkled like pixie dust among Zeta Andromedae and Alpha Trianguli(AKA dead space).

will something like the tau dewa patrol still be on a 24 hour timer during this new bonus mark weekend, if so then that means we can only do it a few times instead of everyday, and how often will these bonus mark weekends come around

The payout for the Academy Event may have been low, but a lot of people still played it. Every time it was on and I found myself in the Academy, there were plenty of people taking part. It was a nice change from killing everything in sight.

So how do we do the one hour academy event now? I used to get a lot of dilithium from it.

and wait the mirror invasion event is gone too? For real?? I'm kind of wondering why I'm bothering with the game now. I used to like daily events. I liked them more before they cluttered it with useless events like vault shuttle but I'm not liking this at all.

Sadly, this was not a very thought out plan.

The new weekend events only give us 10 days out of 28 to have any kind of event running that helps with the rep system grind. And that is just the first month. The others will give us 10 days out of 30 or 31.

They said something about doing this to bring the community together, but this is not the way to do it. It would be better if there was at least something every weekend. Then there would only be 2 days with nothing going on each week.

Or, even better, they could have made them weekly events, and have them run every week.

As it is, there are only 10 days out of the month worth getting online to grind. After the anniversary event, I will only be online during the event days. Otherwise, it would be a waste of time to do any missions that offer rewards, since they will still only give the very small amounts normally.

    THIS...

I've noticed it as well, my friends list has been halved, folks just not logging in anymore because Cryptic are so OUT OF TOUCH with their own playerbase. I've rarely logged in since this abomination of an "event" system went in.

I bet there's a lot less participation in these events now that many of them don't even exist anymore.

They should have upgraded the hourly events so they could have multiple events going on at once and create a rotation that actually allows for doing stuff on a daily basis instead of having events occur at 4 PM one day and 2 AM the next.

Like have the Dilitihium bonus event occur several times a day so you can choose which one is the most convenient time for you.

An excellent point. Dailies get the shaft on this one.

I assume this is supposed to boost queue events.

Agreed. The weekends should be a bonus and not the main course. m

So why was this such a good idea? Remind me again!

Apparently the hourly events were under-played. According to our new lead dev in this dev blog:
We were able to confirm our suspicions by data mining player habits and seeing that very few of the hourly events are being played regularly. As a result, we want to refocus the event system to be about bringing the community together. To accomplish this, we are going to increase the rewards dramatically.

However, as the take part of this wonderful give and take relationship we have:
To compensate for the increased rewards, we will be running these events less frequently. Instead of having a new event run every hour, we will be running events for several days centering around a weekend. While the events will be less frequent, the larger rewards, along with the extended time they?ll be active, should net larger returns for all players.

    Uh huh.

But they do care about us!! See here:
We?ve also taken a look at what players who actually use the hourly event system are trying to acquire. Some of the first events we plan to roll out address players? desire to earn extra Marks, Dilithium, Skill Points and Expertise. The new weekend events meant to address these desires also make earning these valuable resources easier by letting players earn them throughout larger portions of the game. Additionally, we?ve updated some of the more popular missions that can be found currently as hourly events into daily missions (e.g. Tour the Galaxy).

    You ask, I answer XD.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once. B)

    Why you do dis?

4 characters that desperately need skill points and marks to complete grinding all your reputation are now slowed massively. Please just go back to the old hourly system, it wasn't broken, you didn't need to fix it, and I feel like it did a good job of generally appealing to multiple time zones. Also, please 2 Mirror Invasions per day. Or increase skill point output of the other PvE missions.

This is the first step in a new system that we hope to add to. We will be taking a close look at how each of these events performs and COMMUNITY FEEDBACK. We'll take both into account when making new events or updating existing ones.

Well given that - so far - I haven't read a single post in which somebody prefers the new event system to the old one it should be quite clear what they got to do. Furthermore what do they expect will happen during these weekends? Of course everybody will grind for dilithium during dilithium event weekend and everybody will grind for marks during mark event weekend. But out of necessity not because they prefer the new system.

The part I never understand in this game is that no one does a focus group or checks the pulse on an idea before they make major changes to the game. Tribble is not a viable sampling as no one really tests the content.

Also if they are going to come out with new ways of doing things then come out with the new ways before changing and removing the old way and see how it goes. Totally taking something out of the game that is used by most of your players and not having something to replace it happens over and over in this game.

Well I don't know if they instituted stealth +20% Bonus Marks in some of the PVE queues. Sunday after completing Conduit Elite, the Omega Mark awards were 18 for the optional (normally 15 and would be +20%) and 72 for the main (normally 60, and again +20%). Had the same happen yesterday in a non-elite Conduit (got in the wrong queue). Also, for a time yesterday, using the Nakura or Solanae Tribble awarded 2 of the appropriate Marks each). I don't know how long but I did get in two twos before it reverted to one.

    Anyone else notice this?

It's two fold. First we're more likely to be able to grind out a few events a few hours everyday and get what we need more steadily then trying to get it all done during the five days of the bonus weekend. If you're trying to get everything done during those weekends you could just get burned out. Furthermore for some the weekends are the time when they don't play but do something else. Second the bonus mark events were like ringing the dinner bell. Everyone knew to come in and do the Entity, the Fleet Alerts, the STFs and it therefore gave those of us who pug quick filling queues. Having it spread out like this is going to spread out peoples times for jumping in to a queue. Instead of funneling everyone to the events at the same time people have far less... directed energy. And of course the obvious the increased rewards made the grind more efficient. I could come in on the bonus mark hours, maximize my daily mark grinds and then take my time to do the other content dilithium grinding, foundry missions, special event grinding, etc.

The Academy event though....I mean that had...rather low rewards anyway. Mirror Incursion though, I don't understand why they would take it out while reworking it. Even if they're making something new, they couldn't they have left the current version up on holodeck?
