I run Mk X Borg myself, but Mk X Borg does jack when you go up against the Borg.

From what people say, it's usually Borg Deflector and Impulse Engines + MACO Shield MACO Shield is stronger than Borg Shield and using Borg Deflector and Impulse Engines = an ever-regenerating shield.

Borg engines, Borg deflector and MACO or elite fleet shield. Pretty much the best combo for any ship, unless you're trying for an unusual build.

The 2x Borg + higher cap shield has sadly been the number one build since the Borg set was released.

Forget dyson. Worst set and worst bonuses.

3pc borg gives awesome regenerative abilities in both hull and shields. 2pc borg gives good hull regen. Often folks will run 2pc borg for hull regen and a stronger shield, like MACO.

Just never use MACO with plasmonic leech. They conflict with each other and will clear each other completely any time they trigger. Omega Force and Adapted Omega (aka Fed KHG) don't have this conflict.

Rodentmaster summed it up quite well. Despite all the new sets we have, nothing has really managed to usurp the Borg 2-piece from its throne yet.

They really screwed us over when they made it a 3pc set instead of 4. Wish they'd never disconnected the console. You could run 2/2 sets that way. This was before warp cores for those that don't know, so the console+engine would get you 2pc hull regen bonus and you could run shields+deflector of something else to get a different set bonus. It allowed much more flexibility.

Something Cryptic seems determined to stamp out these days.

    What about the Proton Barrage?

I use the Adapted MACO space set... I like it for its own torp and power bonus. Though I feel like the Dyson engines are the weaker clone of the Adapted MACO impulse engines.

I want to see the actual stats of the gear when live to compare.

Will it save your ship? or do you give that up in exchange for a virtual weapon?

Forget it. Not as useful as it sounds from all accounts I've read.

What's worse, the full dyson set will get you killed faster than any other set. The shields aren't that great, but they have these quick little heal processes afterwards. So the end result is it feels like your hemmoraging hull points through full shields -- because you take damage, the shields suck so it goes to your hull, and then the shields bounce back. Instead of having full shields that actually help, you get paper thin shields that heal real fast.

It leaves you vulnerable and you just lose hull points and die with full shields.

Not 100% accurate, but that's the dumbed down version. Practically speaking, the Dyson set sucks.

What about adding the comparison of the new Solanae Hybrid set? Would it make any difference in making decision?

The new Solanae shield & impulse are probably the best you can get outside of STFs. The shield is practically the cool little brother of the MACO XII shield lacking the additional +20% vs. plasma. Add a good purple positronic XII deflector with +shds & +stl to it and you're more than save for any endgame activitys you'd like to do.

    Here's my opinion:

The Reputation Dyson set is for science characters. Other characters would be better off using something else.

The "New" Dyson set from the anniversary missions is good, but not as good as MACO. I'd imagine that it will become better once the anniversary ship has access to all those additional shield heals from the consoles.

The Borg set is incredible, especially when used on a Tactical officer. This is for DPS. Personally, I like the borg shields. Fleet shields might be "better" to some people, but I like the fast regen of Borg.

MACO is the definitive tanking set (a case can be made for Nukara), as long as you don't use plasmonic leech. If you want to use Leech, then swap MACO shields out for Fleet.

Odan Brota (Science Officer): Captain of a 28k DPS Scryer Intel Science Vessel, U.S.S. Kepler

I use a elite fleet shield, should I get the borg engine/deflector or MACO?
