As the title already says, I'm a returning player to the game after close to 3 years. I stopped ages ago cause the game was pretty buggy and almost unplayable. Since a couple friends took a renewed interest lately I decided to duck back in. I have to admit it's a bit overwhelming how much has changed and been added/taken away. I leveled up a romulan (Fed) engineer to vice admiral pretty quickly and am now faced with the problem of what to do with him. I mostly used escort type ships for leveling even back before I stopped playing. I am interested in running a nice beefy carrier of some type, or dreadnaught. Something that is a bit easy going but won't leave me taking the weekend to kill something.
I'm still learning my way around the rep system and such, so I don't have any exceptional gear at my disposal yet ( barely level 2 with nukara and omega, and almost 1 with dyson) I'm open to suggestions from the c store or what can be purchased from the exchange for a reasonable price less than 90 mil or so. Build suggestions are also welcome. I've been told by a couple of people to reroll tactical for piloting a carrier/dreadnaught too, so I'd love some input on that as well. I don't mind doing my own footwork either if anyone knows a good post for engineer captains in carriers. My forum fu mostly only turned up stuff about tac captains.
1- i paly a fed eng. love it. reason: survivability and team support. If you do a carrier, maybe build like i do my assault cruiser.
Use cannons and turrets. one torp on the front. I frequently place 1st,2nd and 3rd in the Crystal entity. (for what ever its worth) I don't have top tier gear, but its good stuff.
Reputation: My suggestion atm, because some changes are coming in the near future. I find Omega marks, and dyson marks the easiest to come by. So play the borg missions and the new dyson content STF. (dont forget the ground dyson stuff its fun!) Rack up all the marks you could ever ask for, keep those constantly going and get your self up to tier 5 with them.
I find the romulan one to be annoying to get marks for right now. The Nakura marks are easy to come by, but if you don't have alot of EC you might have trouble getting all the other stuff you need to turn in, so i suggest you start with 2/4 reputations and go from there.
Back to builds. In all my time in STO, I have never seen that you must be one class to paly one ship. Sure some classes work better on a ship but its not a deal breaker. Play what you like , fly what you like, just make sure you have a good build and equipment and fly smart!
As for skills etc..., my advice is to read the power 2.0 thread in the build area on the forums, it helped me make sure I was spending right.
If your feeling frisky, look up the torpedo boat guide (do a google search to find it on the fourms faster) I could see parking a carrier and torp'ing cubes all day hahaha...
one more thing... left over marks and borg processors and dyson implants can be turned in for dilitium! dont forget, it is free money for you to use to convert to Cstore money to get other things you want!
