I couldnt care less what your opinion is,

Believe me, i could not care less about your opinion either. However you seem to have taken the time to disagree with me, so i guess you care just a little :P

I only find it strange that you come to a forum where people talk and your answer is effectively. 'Mind your own business, I don't want to answer you.'

    heres another one.

iconians basically stated that humans are lazy creatures, while progress is made it's ultimately made in the wrong direction so our more primate behaviour can be expressed and because humans are so plentiful, we get treated as a sheep and tagged with a number on the ear. but sometimes even a sheep wants to be more then it is, and so new ways are found to turn on each other instead of having any common sense to stop and become humans again to fight the system of cycle. but because we dont most sheep are content with the slaughterhouse when it comes.

it may read like something troll like however iconians is right that we humans are completely destructive to each other and the various goals which is usually overlooked.

You're right, I must be ignorant because honestly I have no idea what you are rambling on about in any of these posts. Have a nice day.

point and case. hes not looking at the motivation hes going after the symptom.

il tell you my motivation. my privacy is more important then satisfying someone elses interests with an accusatory statement. the best way to go about asking for common sense is by not being aggressive about it. you attract alot more bees with honey then vinegar.

I think the truth is quite simple. It's fun.

People enjoy having a good long rant about something on a forum. Other people enjoy pushing the OP's buttons with troll comments or an equally long rant in reply. Other people choose a side in this argument and start to take pot shots at each other while everyone else passes around the popcorn.

None of it is real. I'm sure the original reason for any rage or rants on here is forgotten in a few hours, and even the most avid gamer recognises that it is still just a game. Very rarely do threads actually get so bad they are locked, and even rarer its due to personal attacks or anything like that.

Perhaps I'm being too optimistic, but it helps me retain faith in mankind :)

Go read about David Cameron. A few minutes reading his policies will soon fix that. :P

In all seriousness to the OP, I'd say that he's just been grouped with bad teams as far as STFs go. I've never had that problem with the STO community. That being said, I'm sure there are people like that in-game.

In game you run into nutballs that will rip your head off if you miss a probe in a khitomer and spam you with rage tells for an hour

In game you will run into people that will literally accuse your entire team and fleet of destroying PvP if you use a console... and then take it to the OPvP channel and flip out for an eternity about how its unfair, theyd beat you 1v1, you suck, etc

On the forums people will whine cry argue rage hate spam spam spam threaten people threaten to sue, threaten to leave, stamp their proverbial feet, belittle, go off the deep end.

In this game you will find people that literally cannot stand anothers success, and will go to great lengths to make their life a living hell in the game any way they can. Ive seen certain entitled people in power abuse their members this way. Such pettiness, and all for "feels"

As a whole, the community that is STO seems to be a very angry bunch of entitled nerds that cant take a joke or cant accept a respawn or cant handle losing 15 measly marks.
Is there anybody here you like?

    Welcome to Internet gaming...

Also I think the STO community in general is very friendly and helpful. People are willing to openly share PVP tactics, which is very uncommon in my experience.

    @ OP

The community is not the loudest voice on the forums, or the people who come here to voice their issues, even if you dont like their method, consider what points they bring and why.

I find in game, the community to be just fine, we go into an STF get it done, and move on. Very rarely now do i find people who don't know how to complete an STF or who are "trolling". That's good enough for me.

I have no real problems ignoring the crazies in-game, but I do find myself having to take a break from the forums from time to time, to take a proverbial shower.
You're right. The work here is very important.

Meh, this is all just a manifestation of the Greater Internet F
Theory. Essentially, "Normal Person + Total Anonymity + Captive Audience = Total Jerkass".

I would post the link (it's on Wikipedia), but the URL contains an F-word that the board admins might object to. The "clean" version of the theory behind it can be read at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Online_disinhibition_effect

Odd for fans of an IP that promotes tolerance and cooperation to be quite so angry and spiteful

Were I rich, I would pay top dollar for a MODERATED server to be put in place.

This was the first MMO that I ever got into, and I only played it because I assumed that gamenerds and angerfreaks (I'm old and don't understand how slang works) would have avoided Star Trek.

It's certainly no worse than any others I've played since, but the community rarely acts in a way that is worthy of a Star Trek title. Although I think I've found the right Fleet for me, so that's nice. :)

I'm ashamed to admit it, but sometimes I wish this game was single player with multiplayer sections instead of an MMO - because the behaviour of other players brings me down and makes me quit game sessions.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I don't do STFs any more because of my experiences with them, and I would be extremely surprised to find out that I was the only one who felt this way. And don't get me started on the Foundry scoring process.

Having said all that: This is by far the most Star Trekky game available right now, and I cannot stress how much I love playing the Story Missions. So, I can do that solo with chat turned off. There is that OPTION at least - which is more than many other MMOs put on the table. I'm really enjoying the new stuff, the latest updates and stuff - I really like the direction this game is taking.

I would like to see more variety in the exploration side of things - I honestly assumed (remember - this was my first MMO) that the game would be about making moral decisions and the consequences of such. That Fed mission where you have to choose between attacking Drake and the vessel's captain is exactly what I'm talking about - something where you weigh up the pros and cons - as opposed to DPS pew pew pew. I love the blasting action (don't even mind the ground combat), but I would like to see much more philosophical issues raised.

Although consider this: These jerks that we hate are probably the same guys and gals that keep throwing money at PWE, so in one way we need them. We need to accept that their behaviour brings us down, but also keeps the game going.

So, there IS a game of tolerance and understanding: The META game. ;)
