Systems Designer Phil "Gorngonzolla" Zeleski reveals details about the upcoming Secondary Deflectors that are being added to Science class ships in this entry of the Season 8 News Dev Blog series.
Will there be deflectors added to any of the existing sets? Warp cores never showed up for existing sets like ~Assimilated or the others and instead were added as fleet holdings and the new Dyson set.
Seeing how often secondary deflectors were referenced in various shows and movies, I'm surprised they didn't put them ingame sooner. But better late than never
One thing that's not said in the Devblog : will Secondary Deflectors be (stats-wise) on par with existing Main Deflectors, or diminished versions ?
A: Science Vessels. In short, if the starship has both Subsystem Targeting and Sensor Analysis it will receive a Secondary Deflector slot even if the ship?s art doesn?t have a Secondary Deflector.
Why is the secondary deflector an item while cruiser commands are toggles directly tied to the ship without any itemization?
Because the blog states there's going to be multiples, much like warp cores, or dare I say the non-rep deflectors. Each Aux Deflector might have procs in a similar style to their regular counterparts
...no, this does not mean you can slot 2 MACO XII deflectors on the same sci-ship :P
Man, that's one ugly looking ship. Cryptic, please hire someone who knows how to design Starfleet ships for Star Trek sakes.
I'm glad not to be working for those, they don't appeal in the slightest to me.
I am however very glad and thankfull about the second deflector. Science ships really needed this. My Vesta will be a shark with one of those. Looking forward to it!
Being the KDF doesn't have many ships with both sensor analysis and subsystem targeting(needs an upgrade since its like a boff power with no expertise spent). So basically the gorn support ship and that bortasqu' no one uses.
I can't see myself using a purple ship as a klingon no matter how they swing it.
Because it is still subject to change, I hope the Tal Shiar Adapted Battle Cruiser also be included in this new feature. It already has Sensor Analysis and comes pretty close to the (few) Romulan science ships out there.

the tal shiar adapted destroyer has it to doesn't mean it well get it lol only time well tell.
Well, a part of me was hoping for a second 'regular' deflector slot (giving the possibility of two two-part bonuses from old rep sets at least on sci ships), but fine enough.
Now, please give the Flanking mechanic and this secondary deflector slot to approprtiate vessels as soon as possible.
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class. Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider. Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

The TSABC is, as you said, a Battle Cruiser. It gets Battlecruiser Cruiser Commands. So I sincerely doubt and very much hope that it doesn't get a Secondary Deflector slot.
You're just a machine. And machines can be broken.

That brings up the question ... Should a Bird of Prey get a secondary deflector slot?
Seems to me a secondary deflector is simply a way to give power creep to the sci classes. Instead of actually addressing the issues and rebalancing sci skills so sci ships matter anymore in gameplay, you simply add a sci ship that does the DPS of an escort -- oh and heap more sci-based skills on it.
You're still stuck with the same SCI skills that do very little to NPCs these days. Instead of solving the issue, gimmicks are thrown at the problem in the hopes of covering it. This will only hurt gameplay balance in the long run. In the short run, too, most likely.

True, but still wouldn't mind if the Tal Shiar ships will be included though haha. I mean the Cruiser tends to lean towards science. Safe to say it wouldn't be totally out of line.:)

I have it but the hard points and its odd turning I might get my lethean sci the hirogen stuff just to have something to replace it with lol.

I guess I'm even more curious if these are fluff mechanics or game changers

--What about the science warbirds (Ha'nom, mirror Ha'nom, and fleet Ha'nom)?
I believe this is the correct answer

So KDF "Support Ships" count as "Science Vessels"? I thought they were a different ship type altogether, like Escorts and Raptors.

Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!
Yeap .. That's what it is saying. You'll note he said they will ultimately drop like the warp cores did when introduced.
