So what does everyone think

It's more modern to what I was expecting. Hope the boots are comfortable with all the running The Doctor has to do lol :)

The boots seem a bit too bulky, but Matt Smith changed costume many times so maybe he will too

As I posted on the FAcebook pic, I think it is "Awful. Dull and boring." He seems to be a poor Jon Pertwee copy. I then realised something. Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant were like William Hartnell (ish) and Matt Smith was like Patrick Troughton, and now Peter Ca-idiot-i is doing a poor impression of Jon Pertwee.

Will Doctor 13/14/15/2 be like Tom Baker? That's what I'd like to know. Also, how long till Doctor 13/14/15/2 comes? I hope it is only one series, like Christopher Eccleston, and that it has the same effect on his "career."

EDIT: Wow, this may be my longest post ever. It goes to show that I get quite passionate about Doctor Who.

If you compare all of The Doctor's outfits right the way through from William Hartnell to Peter Capaldi, all of them have simiiar traits, long coat, Edwardian style ish. A theme to what The Doctor wear has carried right the way through.

Started with Doctor Who with the new series so the 9th Doctor. So I am used to the younger Doctors that are tormented with the loss of Gallifrey. Will have to see how well Capaldi does. Probably prefer the insightful madman style that the previous 2 Doctors seemed to have.

Funny, he hasn't even gotten any episodes in yet and already you're judging him.

I've seen Peter Ca-idiot-i in other things, and I expect him to be as awful as ever. Don't believe me about him being doing a Jon Pertwee impression? Compare the image of Ca-idiot-i to this one.

    Still don't believe me?

The pants are just...awkward. Like there's too much at the top and they're trying to peg at the bottom. The wingtip shoes just seem to emphasis that narrow end. The overall costume seems to imply a comedy magician.

That said, several of the various Doctors wore something awkward. Matt Smith and David Tennant both wore shoes that didn't seem to go entirely with the rest of the ensemble. McCoy had his "?" umbrella. Davidson, well..."not a lot of men can carry off a decorative vegetable". And don't get me started on Colin Baker's rockabilly outfit. All in all, the kooky clothing choices just seem to hint that the Doctor is a bit a mad.

I'll watch for the costume in action. I agree with the earlier assessment. Wingtips are not exactly ideal for running.

Through out all of the regenerations The Doctor still retains something of a previous one. Matt Smith / Patrick Troughton. has been throughout. When Peter Capaldi was first announced as The Doctor my initial comments were he was going to be more Jon Pertwee esque. By posting those images you have confirmed that :)

Of course there will be similarities to previous Doctor's clothing, it is, after all, the same man...

I think it looks okay, and from a time traveller's perspective, nicely inconspicous.

I believe the coat may be the coat worn by John Simm in his portrayal of the Master (the scene where the Doctor, Jack and Martha watch him preparing to board the Valiant in Pt II of the three parter...) Could this reflect hints of the 12th Doctor's new personality, or is it just the Beeb recycling a piece of wardrobe? Time will tell

Oh don't count on it, this is Dr. Who we are talking about, though I should hope we've seen the end of the Fez fetish.

Better than the Stetson? Definitely. "Howdy!" bang! "Hello, Sweetie." I don't think River Song likes Matt Smith in a hat of *any* kind.

Think back to the regeneration sequence. What was the first item of clothing to hit the floor of the TARDIS? ..... The bow tie

    I've seen Peter Ca-idiot-i ...

I've never seen an attempt to turn someone's name into an insult seem so forced and unwieldy. It disrupts the flow of your sentence and removes force from whatever irrelevant subjective bias you're attempting to impress us with.

While I shall reserve judgement on the man and his pleated pants until I've seen him in action, I nonetheless offer this as a public service: TRIBBLE-paltry, or Crapaltry.

In '65 (or '66), I imagine there were alot of Hartnell fans that weren't exactly eager to see Troughton replace him. Or when Pertwee came along (and commenting in horror: velvet jacket? bouffant hairdo? frilly shirt? what is the world coming to?) ... or the others. I'm willing to give Capaldi a chance ... provided he smiles at least once a year (or, preferably, more frequently). After all if his fellow Scots actors in DW can interchange between smiles and seriousness, why can't Capaldi?

Indeed... just because he looks different with each regeneration, it doesn't mean he's a completely new character. (In fact, the similarity of that pose seems quite deliberate.)

I seem to recall comparisons being made of Silvester McCoy's Doctor with Patrick Troughton's, as they had the similar trait of displaying a bumbling facade to catch their enemies off guard. Does that mean 7th was "terrible" Doctor? Certainly not (in fact he's my second favorite).
