I'm creating a time traveling episode and would like to use a 'Model' of the Borg known as 'One' and also have him go back in time to 1950's Los Angeles.

Does Foundry have a way to import 3d models from other programs like Maya or Blender?

How about textures?

What's your advice on making this look as authentic as possible if not...?

um... no. You'd have to tinker with the in game assets. Technically you can't use One anyways. You're not allowed to depict the likeness of any of the actors from the show.

I am pretty sure your safe as far as likeness issues, he is a borg after all, but you will be stuck with the in game resources. This an online game and your 3d models will not be added to any in game patches. The 2409 Borg drones are probably your best bet.

Some Romulan buildings might double as art deco buildings, you will need to use your imagination. There are no cars , The Romulan female skirt might look 50's.

If you listen to PrimtimeUGCs new interview with Al Rivera, he gives a pretty good example of why custom objects/textures cannot be allowed.

That he did.... lol. It is bad enough that exploits are sucking the life out of the foundry.

I wouldn't try to make a 1950 set like that. I wish we could, but not a cityscape.

You might be able to pull off a 1950s looking restaurant using some combination of assets, like TOS beds to make booths, and those square tables with 4 chairs.

We just don't have many historical props

1960's would be much easier. TOS has many 60's style modernist props. The mens formal wear has 3 button suits like the Beatles wore etc.

Strange, isn't it? Not like that was a predominant feature of TOS.

Consider, if you will, the amount of TOS material in game. It works out to 'there arent the assets because there aren't the missions. I would posit to you that has alot to do with the story philosophies of then and now. Then, you were trying to tell allegorical stories of social commentary, now, shoot things to get the loot to be the best to get more loot. I cannot entirely fault cryptic for this, because lets not lie to ourselves, its what the market wants(or the perception the market gives that it wants)). So it comes down to the smaller community, IE us, to try and bring back some of the older storytelling ideas. This will make us 'pariahs' and lord knows it started all that bloody nonsense over grinder vs story, but because we are the least common denominator, we have to make due with what we have until we can find a way to make our lot the important lot.

On a scale from "difficult" to "impossible", I wonder how hard it would be for Cryptic to import art assets from its other products? The superhero MMORPGs would at least have suitable clothing for all those time-jaunts back to the 20th century, and Neverwinter could cover primitive planets. I'm sure there would be technical and legal hurdles to overcome, though.

Would be the opposite for each game.

The hurdle with porting from Neverwinter might be legal, since it is a different, licensed intellectual property (that may not matter though, IDK I'm not a lawyer). Technically I don't think it would be too much trouble since they already have a foundry that is similar, though not identical, to ours.

The hurdle with Champions is technical, since they don't have a Foundry and hence nothing has ever been imported into one. No legal hurdles probably since that is an original IP that Cryptic owns.

I would guess that both are unlikely, but perhaps not impossible.

Oh, I thought that it was a totally Cryptic-created thing that they made after they lost the Marvel license?
