Hi guys, I'm going to get a Fleet Heavy Escort Carrier but I'm not sure about the build:

1 - I WANT at least 1 torpedo.
2 - I'd like a beam array.
3 - I want good DPS.

PVE: http://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/?build=hecpve001_0
PVP: http://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/?build=hecpvp001_0

the beam array in PVE Build is the 360? one that is rewarded by completing The Vault.

That one can only be fit on a shuttle or other small craft. The only large craft 360 beam array is the Antiproton one from 'Sphere of Influence'. There's also the Kinetic Cutting Beam from the Omega Rep, but it's not a beam array (and doesn't work with FAW, BO, or subsystem targetting, unlike the aforementioned beam array).

Not sure why you'd want a beam array on that build anyway.

    I like your style.

I'm a firm believer that a versatile build and a sense of timing will win the day over guys who just run multiple copies of CRF bound to spacebar and try to chainsaw through everything.

This is what I drive. She serves me very well. With all buffs active, she annihilates a Borg cube in about six to eight seconds, she can solo any dreadnought in the game, always places (usually first) in ranked PvE events, and with good team support she often takes top damage honors in PvP.

The only things I change between PvE and PvP is that I usually swap out the TPDS console for a Neutronium [+turn]. Still working on Spire rep to get the Vulnerability Exploiter [Pla] consoles.

    do not misunderstand, on my Fleet Ha'Feh I use TT1 - CRF1 x2 - THY1/3 - AP:B2/3.
I am one of those who use multiple copies of CRF in PVPs.

But this isn't my PVP toon, so I'd like to try something different.
I absolutely want a beam array cause ... well there are no good reasons ... I just like it on fed ships.

The Akira Class always used beam arrays (like all FED ships) in TNG.

(Hopefully) before everyone else jumps in, remember that there's a difference between what you want to fly and what is "commonly accepted" as an (at least semi-) optimized build...

On that note, it sounds like your desired build pretty much matches the "Cryptic Default" of 2xDHC, 1xDBB, 1xTorp that every escort I've ever grabbed from the C-store (and my freebie on level up) is "shipped" with. Well, except you're talking array and the ships come with DBB...

Therefore, I'd like to believe that, as the "default" loadout, the game is at least semi-balanced to accept this as a "functional" build. Especially if you can "survive" with the DBB as your beam weapon over a "true" forward array... ;)

However, there are but two "concerns" with optimizing this build and keeping good DPS out of it...
    1. Weapon-initiated power drain: You'd want a severe overcap to make this build work - you lose tons of damage if you don't fire your BO at 125 power, however, you also stand to lose tons of damage if you fire DHCs after the BO slaps it's -40/-50 drain on you. Weapons batteries and/or EPtW would be your friend, however that can get expensive...
    2. Skill timing: Volley or two from the DHCs then a full-out BO should de-shield most PvE targets. Then, the challenge is landing a HY torp on that bare hull before the shields come back. Doing this constantly with your CRFs etc. should get you into the 10k DPS range if my quickie guesstimates are correct...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

    exactly ... thats the point.
getting what I like without losing too much dps.

however: this is a "fun" toon, it doesn't have to be perfect, it just have to be funny.

    That's what I like:
    - Phaser Energy Weapons
    - At least 1 Beam Array
    - At least 1 Torpedo Launcher
    - Good DPS
    - Good Survivability

Thats why I tried to put a 360? Beam Array in Aft Slot, but it seems its not possible.
    What should I do ?
