Up until recently I'd only ever done rep grinds on old Characters. The sort who've been around since launch. And as they had millions of Expertise points it was pretty much just a box checking exercise.
However I've now moved onto new characters, and the Expertise requirements are looking a bit silly. 64,000 for each item on the following list:
Romulan Flame-thrower
Full Romulan space set
Rinal piece of the Romulan weapon set.
And that's only the Romulan set, luckily tend to just do one or two Rep systems on a character.
Now I asked around in my fleet and they suggested the following:
1: Mirror event: Well first the event systems getting changed shortly. Second Yesterdays Mirror Events were at 1300 and 0500. Which is very useful times for a casual player...
2: Patrol missions: The Romulans get two of these netting 5K on advanced difficulty.
So I'm hoping the final mission for the Rep project will give out similar rewards to the first time through (but I doubt this will be the case), otherwise its going to be a long long time before I get the projects finished.
I note the Dyson rep system has altered things to a much more friendly system, so that's a step in the right direction. But for the previous three Rep systems not so much.
believe me, expertise is only a temporary problem if at all. Once you've played your characters a little, they just pile up expertise like your old ones.

I don't know about that. My main character that I created when the game first came out has zero expertise after doing Omega T5 and Nukara T4. The only gear I got was the Omega armor and that sapped me of all my expertise. My new characters are in even worse shape. I do the Mirror Invasion when I can but it's still not enough. The expertise needed to craft an entire set of ground gear or space gear is ridiculous.
I don't know how much time you spend in game, but if you slot your doff assignments each time you log in and do some dailies besides that to reach your 8k refinement limit, your character shouldn't have a problem. You should run some elite STFs anyway for the much needed dilithium. Even doing the lore mission at the academy (FED or KDF) gives you a little dilithium and expertise and while there you can check the NPCs that give you the assignments for doff recruitment.

That might be a problem, I rarely reach the refining limit. I can normally manage a run through the Defera sector block dailies, which is 10K Exp and some Dil.
Had a thought, and this is only a random back of a beer mat thought. Which in no small part is possibly down to me being lazy...hell this entire thread could be construed as that, on the flip side 25600 days until I get the full sets at my current rate*. And that's about the same for two mission replays per day.
First off the Exp requirement like most requirements is all about causing grind, which is fair enough. The Grind incentives people come back.
Surely Veteran players have already proved they'll keep coming back time and again? So After someone becomes an X value vet they are allowed to replay the Final rep mission (albeit with massively cut down Dil reward). That way instead of several thousand days of grind it comes down to a much more manageable number. Especially as we've already pumped several months into completing the Rep track?
*Its actually less than that for me. Its only 19200 days play as I had some Exp stored up, but someone who plays casually and has none stored up is looking at about that figure to get a full MKXII space and weapon set.
I have to ask, if you don't have expertise (the most trivial "currency" in the game that comes from practically everything you do) where do you plan on getting the actual resources needed for all this rep gear you want?
Run (if you haven't already) or rerun story missions. If you're rerunning, focus on the missions that give out cool rewards, like "The Last Stand" from the Romulan arc which gives out the wicked Caustic Plasma weapons.

The notion of running out of expertise makes me laugh. I have guys with over 30mil, AFTER having paid for the old 25mil XP projects. I have guys I made recently pushing 3M+, more than enough to pay for every rep. It is sad that they took away our 25mil XP dump for finishing the Spire. I could have used another place to flush 25mil of the stuff in one go.
ya, my main filled 2 25M projects, I was hoping this time around I would have been able to at least drain some from my less used alts, but its gone now because of a few whiners.

*crickets for bad pun*
On my main I have 5.3 million expertise, and I remember once dumping 8 million into a fleet project, and one other time dumping about 1 million.
So thats like 15 million expertise that character has earned since April of last year. (when I started)
I dont see the issue. Yeah sure it sucks for "instant gratification" but christ if you play at all regularly your expertise comes out your ears.
