So we have 3 content pushes this year.
8.5, 9, and what I assume will be season 10 or expansion 2.
Yes there will be repeatable events (Xmas/ risa) but I am talking about story progression.
S8.5 is out next week.
Exp2 will be out end of year (let's say dec).
S9 will be out "early 2014 " so let's say end of May.
Looking at last year, we the biggest content push since launch which was exp 1 (new faction) and s8 (which was a technical milestone but small number of actual stuff to do).
But exp2 will not include a new faction (But I am betting a level increase).
What I am saying is, just by sheer weight of numbers it looks like (if they keep to this schedule and no new faction), a really awesome year for an already 4 year old game.
Question: is it real? Is this a dream? Has my brain froze in the Canadian winter and this isn't really happening?

No, I've read it too, and it seems too good to be true, last time we saw this type of content promise was probably the first stab at Feature episodes, which lasted all of five months.
Still, I've got my fingers crossed, I need an excuse to play more often and this could be it!

It would be nice to keep things bug fixed though, so they were only dealing with fresh bugs instead of constantly dealing with those and the old ones. Otherwise, as excited as I am about new content, I dare say it'll just make the bug issues worse too.

I no longer do any Bug Hunting work for Cryptic. I may resume if a serious attempt to fix the game is made.

Two different teams unless you want kestral to sit down and try to fix the faw bug
I realise, I just mean they should get more on top of it and sure they could recruit more people to do that, I'd say that was a good use of revenue. Although I'm happy we're getting new content, especially these Dyson ships, I just worry what that amount of content will do to the number of bugs.

Never assume until you get the official word. Recently two threads were closed down for untruths. One being the so called storyline for the 4th anniversay, even though the truth had already been revealed, and second (only a day or so ago a thread was created with images of the supposedly anniversary ships. So until you actually get the blog to read from branflakes content info should be deemed untrue.

So interviews and forum postings by Devs are lies? Alright.
Errr no I said until you get the news official from blogs and branflakes you should not believe what is deemed to be true.
So if gecko says there is an expansion coming this year don't believe him until a dev blog that says it.
I am confused. Should I not listen to any interview? What is the point of the interview?

Geko announced it in an interview which was put into a blog so therefore is true. If I said in a thread I have just heard that the whole cast of Voyager will be doing a feature episode each to be released in September, that is untrue.
Geko did not say when the expansion was to be released so if in a thread by someone not officially associated with STO that the expansion will be out on such n such a date you should not believe it.
What I'm saying is unless it is information given by someone officially associated with STO deem it to be untrue.
We'd also like to do more mid-season updates, so you never know, there could be a 9.5 before, what was revealed as currently planned in the "Reflections" blog, Expansion 2. You'll just have to stay tuned to find out what 2014 has in store, but it's bound to be a big year!

Sounds exciting! Just please, for the love of Star Trek V's starship coveting god, please no more alien non-faction ships! ESD looks like it's constantly under occupation with all the enemy ships flying around it.

Of course plans are subject to change.
The only issue is when they do change and nobody from cryptic says anything and leave the hundreds of "what happened to..." threads ignored.
I do not believe there are many people who are upset when a 12 month plan diverts.

Hey, that blog being called "Reflections" doesn't hint at a Mirror Universe revamp/push, does it? They seem like one of the rougher parts of the game, having only really been updated with the addition of Jupiter costumes and Terran combadges, if memory serves.
I'd LOVE Klingon-Cardassian Alliance costumes in the C-SWtore or Lobi store. (That would be an Overseer version of the Bajoran uniform like Overseer Odo and with the battle harness worn by Mirror Bajorans, Intendant uniform like Intendant Kira, Regent's uniform like the Klingon variant Regent Worf had, and Cardassian.)

I feel bug fixes are improving/moving in the right direction. There is certainly increased communication on that front.
I think a lot of people just don't really understand how terrible a company Atari was. I've seen they way they screwed other partners. It was a bad time for the game, but the game has really flourished since it was removed from Atari.
You realize Cryptic has never, EVER, nevereverevereverever been able to fulfill a promise made or hit a deadline in their entire history? Even back when they held the reigns for City of Heroes (moment of silence, please................) they could never get things done on time or what they promised. The game only got BETTER after NCSoft canned Jack Emmert, Cryptic hired him back and sold the whole thing to NCSoft and started developing Champions Online just so Jack could get his petty revenge.
So until we see it in-game...just assume it's fake. That way, when Cryptic &#%@s up, as they always do, it's no disappointment or surprise. And if it DOES happen, we're all pleasantly surprised.
I like the idea of .5's That's what they should be, Quality of life stuff. So far they did a good job of monetizing the improvements without TRIBBLE everyone over. I know I'll be buying load out slots.
This is how it's done, this looks like it will tun out excellent and I hope it does. Quality of Life improvements can be hard to justify on a schedule when you are running a F2P game. You can't just have a bunch of devs working on stuff that will generate zero revenue.
I hope the 8.5 is a great success and will prompt further quality of life improvements in more .5 seasons.

If it is true than it all seems rather ethereal

It was announced in the review of the year if I remember correctly. Coming end of the year.
They later said it won't be a faction.

Hint hint.

It was a in a blog.
Nope, it was in a "reflections," letter, which as already pointed out didn't meet the requirements laid out by the poster I referenced.

Isn't a season meant to be a year in itself?
No. A season is the term for a large update that isn't an expansion. Seasons are generally a couple of months.
