Hey guys, I been looking over the dyson reputation items, and all the bonuses seem to focus heavily on regenerating shields, high shield power and resistances, I was wondering if this set wouldn't be worth it for an escort in terms of more survivability in elite stfs?

I've been using the Dyson Space set on various ships, especially my Mobius. I find that it is remarkably good at fending off alpha strikes that drop shields via damage spike (e.g., beam overload 3 + DBB). The moment your Dyson shield facing drops, that facing immediately pops back up to full. However, Dyson shields have the lowest shield capacity of any Mk XII set shield in the game, and the shield regen proc has a fixed cooldown (not sure about exact value in seconds).

Yeah, just about any shield is fine for PVE.

It is considered to have good tanking benefits.

In PvE I am doing great with the full dyson set on my Avenger. Overall I do much better with it than I did with the borg set. It seems even in elite STFs my shields rarely actually collapse and I take much hull damage. What happens is a shield facing will get nailed hard enough to get close to failing and that regeneration kicks in and the shield facing seems to come instantly back up. Due to enemies using the same damage type shields become more resistant to that type. I have my avenger fitted with romulan beams and the borg 360 cutter and by keeping my speed up and constantly changing my orientation I find that I can spread out the damage across the shield facings.

The dyson set is wonderful for a science captain, and should function well on a science-oriented tactical vessel, such as the mobius. I've also seen it used on the Jem'Hadar Dread and the bug ship, so it's viable.
