Just as long as this Roddenberry-fosaken season of Voyager ends with season 8, it can be a copy paste of "romulan mystery" with the word "binar" ad libbed in for "romulan" for all I care.
Expansion doesn't have to contain new faction. They should expand in any direction that would be related to current factions --> something new and fresh that will keep the game going and keep it interesting. A lot of players spent a lot of time with their main character - those needs to be supported before they ad completely new faction (that would have to choose between joining fed or kdf - we already saw this).
For an expansion to work there needs to be a way to make money off of it. In LoR they were able to make money from Romulan ships, races, uniforms, and so on. That's why the expansion was free: because they knew they had all the c-store income to look forward to.
How will you monetize an expansion that isn't a new faction? You either need to charge for it, something PWE doesn't like to do, or you need to find things to sell. That's the only way Cryptic can make back the money put into making the expansion. If you're not selling a new race's ships, characters, and uniforms what are you going to sell to make the money back?
Further upgrades to existing characters (a level cap increase, 11 console ships, and/or ship grouping in space with a focus on team synergy -- I have a full 5 fleet tier ships on my main but how many people don't? Or what if allied ships don't draw from your personal collection of ships and are a separate resource, like bridge officers?), more ship/kit customization (which provides things to sell), and/or a new profession would all do that.
This really isn't anything new. Gecko pretty much said no new faction in the near term a few weeks back. Branflakes is just re-stating what was said in that podcast.

I'd prefer that they focus on expanding the available content for the factions we have, not diluting things further by adding more of them.
this ^^^^^^ and why do ppl think....... oh hey we add a faction now they going to be a new faction every xpack or year.......... some need to wake up and smell the Romulan Ale

There's been talk of an endgame storyline to end the Federation-Klingon War - which, for obvious reasons, would be a monumental event in STO lore. Maybe the expansion is going to revolve around that?
Or maybe they'll just finally get around to turning the in-game calendar to 2410.
No expansion is a good thing imo. They can FINALLY get around to fixing some bugs!
That will be the second time today that I snorted pop laughing when reading this forum. Like others have said I would prefer if they concentrated on what they already have rather that throwing some other half finished thing in and the more they pile on the further from reality things like bug fixes and existing content enhancement becomes.
If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.
Or maybe they'll just finally get around to turning the in-game calendar to 2410.
I sure hope so, It would be about bloody time to advance it onwards
These are the Voyages on the STO forum, the final frontier. Our continuing mission: to explore Pretentious Posts, to seek out new Overreactions and Misinformation , to boldly experience Cynicism like no man has before.......
I rather them work on whats here, like updating crafting, updating exploration , updating outdated missions, fixing uniforms, and finishing uniforms...I'm talking about you Fleet Odyssey uniform, and KDF Bortas'Q with the shoulder pads. I could go on all day.
...Okay how would ending the Federation/Klingon war be a monumental event?
The Federation/Klingon war doesn't even exist. It's just something the Undine cooked up that the top brass on both sides decided to go along with because it let them blow stuff up. Once the Borg showed up, they pretty much forgot about it because there was other stuff to blow up. And that continued with the Tholians, the Elachi, and the Voth...
Anyway I hope they focus on crafting, immersion, and RP. Just...because.
And I hope that the Cardassians are never a faction. This game already has enough ugly drab aesthetics with the Klingons...we don't need even more brown... What we need is the Dominion. Maybe with playable Cardassians as part of it, but still focusing mainly on the Gamma Quadrant part of things. But that can wait for a couple more seasons. For now, the devs should really just slow down and work on developing the base before they continue to expand.

I would much rather have them end the idiotic fed/klink war (mostly so that I can group up with my ridge-head buddies and make fun of their haircuts) than work on a new faction. Besides, since they've got the big three already, and have lockbox'd their way into a corner regarding a Dominion Revival faction, who else is there?

They really should create as many factions as they possibly can to allow every single persons interest in the trek universe to flourish.
More spaces for niches, the more people will fill those holes.
In the end they could simply create the Federation and many of the factions would automatically fly under their banner like it is now, but also allow the subculture of their own races.
Excuse me, excuse me, would you mind stopping that darn noise?
obscene gesture, vulcan neck pinch, claps, cheers
The answer= none at this time.
Good. Not saying that new factions are bad but the game needs alot more than new factions at this point in time.
So, no factions = positive
You know Geko also said there was no 10-Console version of the Dyson Science Destroyers because their gimmicky transformation made up for the lack of a tenth console.
Look how that turned out. Jus' sayin'.
You're just a machine. And machines can be broken.

He never said that, actually. What he did say in the interview was that the Anniversary Ships didn't have 10-consoles and that the extra work was needed to get them (like with the 10-console winter/ summer ships) because of the transformation, warp core, special cannons, BOFF switching, secondary deflector, etc. The C-Store packs have always been planned.
What do you mean by new faction? romulans were not a faction, they are like caitians with their own episodes and ships, or nausicaans with own episodes and ****. they didn't add a third faction to this game, or a new faction in any shape of form, kerrat is still borg vs red vs blue. There is no green side. In my world that is.
Say the word, it saves the world. CUUCUUMBEER!"-With slight partigen with it." Proud member or DPS-800"-We kill dem mines with our scitter turrets."
In the near term we're not planning to add any additional factions, but that doesn't preclude us from seeing the need for a new one in the future," we were told when asking about the three playable factions already on offer (Romulan Republic, Klingon Defense Force and Federation).
It is better to say we have 2 1/2 factions, the Romulans are only 1/2 faction, they have to surrender to the Klings or the Feds. They are not independent

Yeah, I understand that. It was more to do with the wording in the interview.
What he failed to say is "you know, I can't really talk about whether a ten-console version is planned for future release" in that interview. Hence why many people - such as myself - took what he said to mean there was no 10-console version at all. Hence partly why people were annoyed when it was announced that the 10-console versions would be released in the C-Store.
I realise that at the time, he wasn't able to come out and say there'd be C-Store versions. All i'm saying is he could have left himself a little more wiggle room.
In any case, while I really would like to see a fourth faction (Cardassian), you'd need plenty of time to get to developing so my money isn't on this year. Next year, maybe. That being said, the Steam stats showed that the number of Steam players playing when LoR released was nearly as high as when it went F2P - so as a method of enticing more players and (ultimately) making more money, it's not to be snubbed.
Also, "extra work"? What happened to "extra fun"?
You're just a machine. And machines can be broken.
No 3rd faction (yes I said 3rd) like Cardies or Dominion or Cardies+Dominion? Good. They shouldn't even consider that until they make the Rommies a full faction instead of lackeys of the Feds and Klinks.
Tyr shall give me strength! For the glory of Tempus! I am the hands of Shar! Flames of Kossuth, protect me! Oghma, grant me knowledge! Lolth commands, and I obey!
Honestly, you guys introduce a playable Dominion faction, and a staggered FE series like I suggested a few months back, with an appropriately epic Iconian apocalypse storyline, and maybe some fun little holodeck missions, possibly featuring Vic Fontaine, Captain Proton, [Player name], Secret Agent, and maybe Dixon Hill...yeah.
It'd be a big expansion, but I would bet my life savings and my college scholarship that you get record player numbers. Especially if you convince PW to skip the whole ARC bullcrap, or at least to make it optional.
I will admit that I have an ulterior motive: I want to play a Jem'Hadar soooooooooooooooo badly. Jem'Hadar are cool. And getting my orders from Weyoun or Odo would be just plain awesome.
I'd love to see some of the story arcs finished. To have a final resolution to them. That would be much more entertaining than adding a new faction with and handfull of new stuff and the same old unfinished stories. What we have needs to be completed.
Also, we really need a massive overhaul to crafting. I'd love to be able to take current items and with the crafting system, be able to change modifiers..etc.. to fit our builds better and at least be able to craft MK XII gear and so on.

And doesn't this 'extra work' seem like a very bad idea to you right after what you liken it to, the winter event?
And if C-Store packs have always been planned (that I expect also transform, have the special cannon and switch Boffs), then they shouldn't be terribly OP compared to other 10 console ships, which makes their lesser versions as comparable to normal Tier 5 9 console ships. And normal 9 console ships have been given for no grind on previous anniversaries, which I found good.
So why the change and making all the festive events grinds? At least the anniversary (unlike the summer and winter event) has, up to this point, remained grind-free.

Of course it's nothing personal Brandon, it's more aimed towards the overall Cryptic's approach to this event.
